Relegation treble

The relegation treble market invites punters to name all three clubs that will drop into the Championship at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Last season proved how wide-open the relegation picture can be, but while the challenge of naming the doomed three is great, so too can be the rewards for getting it right.

Relegated teams finish – 2023-24

  • Bournemouth, Luton Town & Nottingham Forest @ 28/1 with bet365
  • Burnley, Everton & Luton Town @ 40/1 with bet365

bet365’s relegation treble market closes when the opening game of the Premier League season – Burnley vs Manchester City on Friday 11 August – kicks off at 8pm.

For your bet to be paid out, all three teams you back must finish in the bottom three and be relegated to the Championship.

Where could the value lie in this market?

Almost any selection in this market could provide value with the odds reflecting the difficulty of the challenge of naming all three clubs that will be relegated.

The market-leading combination at 9/1 is Bournemouth, Luton Town and Sheffield United. The last two are newly promoted from the Championship while Bournemouth narrowly stayed up in May and have since replaced manager Gary O’Neill with Andoni Iraola.

Last season was the first since 2017-18 that the three promoted clubs all stayed up. Fulham led the way under Marco Silva, finishing 10th, Bournemouth survived the early exit of manager Scott Parker to claim 15th and Forest, under Steve Cooper, were one place below the Cherries.

Backing all three promoted clubs – Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton – to go straight back down is a 10/1 shot. However, that eventuality is rarer than you might think: it hasn’t happened since Bolton Wanderers, Barnsley and Crystal Palace came up together for a single season each in 1996-97.

Burnley took the Championship by storm last season, racking up 101 points in 46 matches, and look less vulnerable than the Blades or the Hatters, who both need to strengthen their squads.

One club that may go under the radar are Wolves, who were bottom of the Premier League at Christmas before the appointment of Julen Lopetegui. There have been rumblings of discontent at Molineux over the summer and, at the time of writing, they have not yet added to their squad.

At 25/1, Luton, Sheffield United and Wolves to be the relegated teams could prove to be a shrewd selection given their lack of investment over the summer and the overall depth of their squads.
