Rolling the dice on Alex Golesh may be USF’s best bet

Alex Golesh is a 38-year-old assistant coach who has never been a head coach at any level. He is not a splashy hire, but he's not Deion Sanders or Jon Gruden. USF athletic director Michael Kelly is willing to deal with short-term accusations in exchange for a coach he believes is long-lasting. i in the past, Jeff Scott was a complete flop on the scoreboard at USf football offices. i.e. Manny Diaz and Tom Allen. Jim Leavitt. is an example of a former coach that didn't work out.

Alex Golesh has never been a head coach before. He has energy and charisma in abundance. Heupel had never worked as a coach until UCF. Jimbo Fisher had no head coaching experience before he was promoted at Florida State.

Kelly talked to Chadwell and Sanders about the USF job. Liberty was about to offer Chad well a lot of money. Sanders was on the radar of Power Five schools.

Alex Golesh is a big gamble for USF, but for a program eager to grow, that's how you win big.
