Thursday at Royal Ascot is for the Gold Cup and it can only mean one thing, Stradivarius descending onto Ascot with Frankie Dettori on board.

The 2m4f trip is Stradivarius’s specialty as one of the best stayers in the history of racing.

He takes on the favourite, Kyprios who has drifted slightly in the market in the morning of the race and is less experienced than the John & Thady Gosden-trained horse.

That could be a plus for the four-year-old but Group 1 experience can be key in this sort of race, as was evident in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes on Wednesday, with the favourite losing to an outsider.

Dettori also rides the odds-on favourite Reach For The Moon in the Hampton Court Stakes at 5.35pm and owned by the Queen, it could make it a great double on the day for Dettori.
