Seton Hall vs. Villanova Prediction, Preview, and Odds

Free Daily NBA Lock Pick, Sunday February 11th: Sacramento vs Oklahoma City 3:00pm ET

The Seton Hall Pirates picked up their second straight win on Wednesday night in a 76-70 win over Georgetown at home. The two straight wins come on the heels of a three-game losing streak and have the Pirates at 15 wins as they try to earn an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament. The Pirates were led by Dre Davis who scored a career-high 25 points while grabbing 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double and just the second of his career. He was supported by Kadary Richmond and his 20 points to go along with eight assists and seven rebounds. Seton Hall is now alone in third place in the Big East.

The Pirates' spot in third place in a Power Five conference and 15 wins give them two key pieces to add to their resume as they build a case for a tournament invitation. The Pirates come into this matchup with the 9th-ranked scoring offense in the Big East. They are an impressive second in field goal shooting percentage but just 9th in 3-point shooting. The Pirates are 11th in three-point field goals made per game. On the defensive end, Seton Hall is fifth in the Big East in scoring defense. They are sixth in field goal defense and fourth in 3-point defense. On the glass, Seton Hall is second in the Big East in total rebounds per game. The Pirates are 11th in the conference in turnovers per game.

Key Injuries: G Malichi Brown (illness) and F David Tubek (ankle) are questionable.

The Villanova Wildcats fell to 12-11 on the season following a 56-53 loss at Xavier on Wednesday night. The loss was the sixth in seven games for the Wildcats and put them on the brink of having to win the Big East Tournament to get an NCAA Tournament invitation. On Wednesday night, the Wildcats fell behind early and had to fight their way back into the game and were within one point with 36 seconds to go but Xavier was able to ice the game with two free throws to close out the game. Brendan Hausen led Villanova with 15 points in the low-scoring contest.

"That was a tough Big East battle," noted head coach Kyle Neptune. "Hats off to Xavier. They made some tough shots down the stretch and got stops when they needed to. I thought our guys were resilient in battling all night."

It is officially now-or-never for the Wildcats with a record of 12-11 and losses in six of seven games. The Wildcats still harbor tournament hopes but will need to close the season strong to earn an invite. The Wildcats are 10th in the Big East in scoring offense. They are 11th in field goal shooting and eighth in three-point shooting. The Wildcats are an impressive 4th in the conference in 3-point field goals made per game. On the defensive end, the Wildcats are eighth in scoring defense this season. They are 9th in field goal defense and fifth in 3-point defense in conference play. The Wildcats are just 9th in total rebounds per game this season and fifth in turnovers per game in the Big East.

Key Injuries: F Nnanna Njoku (knee) is out.

Insiders Status:

To win this game, as I predict they will do, the Wildcats will need to play this game at a slow pace. Each possession will use the majority of the shot clock and I fully expect a score in the low to mid-60s for both teams. Villanova comes into this game ranked 10th in the Big East in scoring offense while the Pirates are only slightly better, ranked 9th. Villanova is ranked just 339th in pace of play this season and Seton Hall is only slightly better, ranking 290th in the nation. Expect a slow pace and a lack of scoring on Sunday.
