Templegate's 9-1 Arc de Triomphe tip has absolutely hammered top-class rivals on past two runs

TEMPLEGATE puts his ante-post punting hat on and takes an in-depth look at Sunday's Arc de Triomphe.

Arguably the biggest race in the calendar, the Paris feature has been won some of the greats down the years.

But as Torquator Tasso showed a couple of years ago, there's always room for an 80-1 shock…

Here, Templegate reveals his tip - which you can back at an exclusive BOOSTED 9-1 with Paddy Power right here.

Templegate's Arc de Triomphe tip

CONTINUOUS has what it takes to win what looks a fairly modest renewal of the Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe by the great race’s high standards.

Connections must fork out to supplement the St Leger winner for the Longchamp highlight at 3.05 on Sunday but surely they will splash the cash to get a run.

He was always travelling sweetly before Ryan Moore decided to take up the running passing the three-furlong pole and the race was all over in a matter of strides.

He stayed the 1m6f well but he’s equally at home over this Arc distance as he showed when winning the Great Voltigeur at York in August.

Conditions were quick there and he had more than enough pace to win.

There are two little niggles. Firstly, he has beaten pretty much the same horses at York and Doncaster and it’s questionable how good the likes of Arrest and Gregory are.

Secondly, it’s only a fortnight between the Leger and Paris.

Yet those are relatively minor worries in that Aidan O’Brien won’t run him in France if he doesn’t think the colt is ready.

But even if Arrest and Co are slightly below the highest level, Continuous absolutely hammered them at York and Doncaster.

Paddy Power have boosted my pick to 9-1 from 8s and that looks more than fair… although it might be worth waiting to make sure he’s supplemented first.

Looking at his rivals, favourite Ace Impact warrants plenty of respect having won the French Derby so well before following up at Deauville.

It’s not a given that he’ll get the extra quarter-mile although he’s likely to.

Hukum could be a bigger threat after his gutsy King George VI win at Ascot last time. We know he stays and the ground will be in his favour.

He’d be the pick should Continuous not turn up.

But Continuous is likely to take another step forward and is clearly up to Arc-winning standard.
