The Wyndham Championship betting preview

It’s last chance saloon for the golfers on the PGA Tour.

After this week’s Wyndham Championship - the final event of the regular season - only the top 70 in the rankings will progress to the FedEx Cup Playoffs which begin next week.

Among those on the outside looking in and hoping for a big week are Irishman Shane Lowry, whose form has never quite fired this season so he currently sits in 77th on the rankings, and Justin Thomas, who is in 79th after a year that has got flatter by the week.

Incredibly, although they’ve won three majors between them, in a combined eight starts at Sedgefield they have only one top 20, when Lowry was seventh in 2017.

They’ll need to improve on the past to make the Playoffs.

Taylor Pendrith each way

Sedgefield was designed by Donald Ross and so, too, was Detroit GC, host of the Rocket Mortage Classic which was introduced to the PGA Tour schedule a few years ago.

In his three visits to the two courses the Canadian Taylor Pendrith has enjoyed himself.

He’s finished second and 14th at Detroit - leading the way both times at some point throughout the week - and he was 13th on debut at Sedgefield last year.

That was a particularly good effort because he was outside the top 100 after round one before flying home on a wet sail with rounds of 67-65-67.

Winners at Sedgefield also tend to have a good record at Sawgrass and, although he’s yet to finish the week off there, he has been in the top 10 at halfway in both his two visits to the Tour’s HQ.

Cam Davis top 30

Australia’s Cameron Davis has also really warmed to Ross tests since missing his first two cuts at Detroit when learning his lines at the top level.

Since then he’s finished 22nd and 15th at Sedgefield but he has been even better at Detroit.

He won there in 2021, was 14th on defence and 17th a few weeks ago.

That’s five top 30 finishes in just seven starts on Ross layouts.

Taylor Moore each way

Let’s take a hat trick of Ross fans and add Taylor Moore who was fifth in this event last year and has been sixth and fourth at Detroit.

Like Pendrith he also has some sneaky form at Sawgrass - in his case a third round 65 earlier this year.

He was a first-time winner on tour earlier this year in the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook which is a course similar to this one with Bermuda greens, an undulating layout and lots of wedges into small greens.

He also enjoyed hitting wedges into the small greens at Harbour Town when 11th in the RBC Heritage.
