Thorndon Mile Form Guide & Tips

1. Coventina Bay ($5)

We liked the Conventina Bay hit the line two back at Trentham and that form is good enough to include her in selections.

She is a two-time winner on the track and she has yet to finish worse than third in six starts over the distance.

Can’t be leaving her out.

2. Demonetization ($15)

Yet to race on the track but it won at Tauranga two back and that is a solid form guide.

Best form comes on wet tracks, so if conditions suit, he could figure in the finish.

3. He’s a Doozy ($14)

A four-time winner on the track and a six-time winner over the distance, so he can’t be left out at the price.

That form hasn’t come at Group 1 level but we’re including him at the odds.

4. La Crique (Best Bet – $2.25)

La Crique is the form runner in the field and she comes off a fourth at Flemington behind Icebath, which is excellent form.

Her odds are drifting, which is surprising, so we’re happy to take the $2.25 available and that’s about the best price you’ll get.

5. Sergio ($35)

A nice type in his own right but we don’t think he’s up this level. His recent form has been only fair, so he would need to lift.

6. Lightning Jack ($27)

Better when second at Wingatui last start but we would prefer to see him racing in something much easier.

Barrier three helps but we can’t find a place for him.

7. Funtonic ($19)

A winner at Te Rapa two back before finishing fifth behind Belle en Rouge on this track, but that form is below this.

His opening $31 odds have been slashed but not enough to get our interest.

8. Conor O’Ceirin ($23)

Never too far away from the mark, but like most of the field, his best form has come in lower levels.

He owns three placings from four starts on the track, so he could sneak into the first four, but he needs a career-best performance.

9. That’s All Fine ($35)

Looks outclassed and we thought his odds would be much shorter. We can’t entertain his chances.

10. Sharp ‘N’ Smart (Best Each Way – $4.40)

A quality type who went to Australia and showed them a thing or two when winning at Warwick Farm and Randwick before placing behind Manzoice in the Derby.

The three-year-old is one of New Zealand’s best and there’s no reason why he can’t win fresh up on Saturday.

Take the each-way odds.

11. Clever Ruds (Best Roughie – $34)

She likes to sit on the pace and that could see her figuring in the finish. Carrying 53kg is another positive and we’re happy to include him at the price.
