All signs point to a close contest between these two AL teams. The Yankees started this series against the Yankees with a 68-69 record while the Tigers entered with a slightly lower 63-74. Despite the better record, the Yanks are dead last in the AL East while the Tigers sit comfortably in third place in the AL Central.
Matt Manning (5-4, 3.62 ERA, 49 SO) vs. Clarke Schmidt (8-8, 4.56 ERA, 133 SO)
2017 first-round draft pick Clarke Schmidt takes the mound for the Yankees tonight with a 4.56 ERA. Meanwhile, Tigers starting pitcher Matt Manning has seen the diamond less this season with 5 wins and 4 losses under his belt. Despite the experience differential, Manning boasts a 3.62 ERA. His formidable arm could be an issue for Yankees batters.
Sportsbooks generally favor the Yankees in this match-up, but only by a slim margin. Either side of the moneyline has value, so long as you’re confident in your pick.
We like the Tigers run line (more on that below) and the Over for this game. Both teams have shown plenty of gusto at home plate, which leads us to believe there’ll be enough runs scored to handily hit the over.
Sure, the Tigers moneyline is more valuable at +140, but we’d rather sacrifice a bit of that value and trade it for a 1.5-run advantage. With Manning at the mound and a stable of capable hitters at bat, we think the Tigers have a shot to keep the Yankees at bay or, at the very worst, keep the game close enough to cover the spread.

Again, we like the Tigers to score a few runs and keep things close while the Yankees shouldn’t run into any trouble getting points on the board. At +215, there’s solid value in this parlay, and the Tigers run line gives you some wiggle room.
