Today's DFS Prop Picks (Monday, 8/21/23)

Welcome to our PrizePicks MLB DFS prop picks for Monday, August 21, 2023. The 2023 MLB season is underway here at RotoBaller, and we have you covered with some terrific plays from our friends over at PrizePicks.

PrizePicks is a great DFS fantasy picks site where you can choose to select plays in terms of fantasy points or single stats. The goal is to build a 2-player, 3-player, 4-player, or 5-player entry and then select whether or not you want to play for the power play or the flex play. On the power play, you will need to be correct on each of your selections to win, and on the flex play, you will have a little more wiggle room for a chance to win some money back. At PrizePicks, you're not playing against other people, you're just playing against the projections, and the guys at PrizePicks have worked hard to give you really attractive opportunities to make some money.

Announcement: We have two awesome new Props Optimizers for the MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and NCAA! The PrizePicks Optimizer and Prop Bets Optimizer are both available in our new Props Premium Package, which includes exclusive access to RotoBaller's VIP Discord chat rooms for props and betting.

PrizePicks Over/Under DFS Props Contests

PrizePicks has two types of games. The first type of game is known as Fantasy Score, which consists of selecting various players and trying to determine if they will go over or under their projected fantasy points in a game.

The second game is known as Single Stat. For the MLB, Single Stat consists of pitcher strikeout props in which you determine if the pitcher in question will go over or under their projected strikeout total.

You can mix and match players from different types of games in your entry or select all of your plays from the same type of game. Once you have selected your players and props, you can choose the aforementioned flex play or power play option. Let's see what the board offers today!

MLB DFS Props - Over/Under Picks for Today

Nola has struck out seven or more batters in three of his previous five starts and has a solid matchup tonight against the Giants. Over the previous three weeks, the Giants are posting the ninth-highest K rate vs. right-handers with a rate of 24%. The Giants are also posting a miserable 57 wRC+ mark over this same span, which is ranked last in the league. Add in the fact that Nola has a 9.9 K/9 rate at home and you should have a recipe for success.

Cristian Javier less than 5.5 strikeouts

Javier has failed to reach this total in 13 of his previous 15 starts and will have a tough matchup on his hands against the Red Sox tonight. Over the previous three weeks, Boston is posting the eighth-best K rate vs. right-handers with a rate of just 20%. They are also posting a respectable 99 wRC+ mark over this same span as well as a walk rate north of 7%, which could both get Javier into trouble in this one.

Ashcraft will be facing the Angels tonight, who are posting a K rate of 27% vs. right-handers over the previous three weeks, which ranks fifth-worst in baseball over that span. They are also posting a walk rate of just 5.5% and a wRC+ mark of just 72, which should certainly help Ashcraft in this one. He has struck out at least five batters in three of his previous five starts and has posted a better K/9 mark on the road than at home this season.

Hoener has been hot lately as he has posted a .920 OPS across his previous 25 plate appearances. He has also hit right-handers well in 2023 as he has posted a .751 OPS with eight bombs. He will be up against Tigers' right-header, Alex Faedo, who has allowed a .255 BAA with five home runs and eight doubles to right-handers across facing just 116 batters.
