Today's DFS Prop Picks (Thursday, 8/24/23)

Welcome to our PrizePicks MLB DFS prop picks for Thursday, August 24, 2023. The 2023 MLB season is underway here at RotoBaller, and we have you covered with some terrific plays from our friends over at PrizePicks.

PrizePicks is a great DFS fantasy picks site where you can choose to select plays in terms of fantasy points or single stats. The goal is to build a 2-player, 3-player, 4-player, or 5-player entry and then select whether or not you want to play for the power play or the flex play. On the power play, you will need to be correct on each of your selections to win, and on the flex play, you will have a little more wiggle room for a chance to win some money back. At PrizePicks, you're not playing against other people, you're just playing against the projections, and the guys at PrizePicks have worked hard to give you really attractive opportunities to make some money.

Announcement: We have two awesome new Props Optimizers for the MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and NCAA! The PrizePicks Optimizer and Prop Bets Optimizer are both available in our new Props Premium Package, which includes exclusive access to RotoBaller's VIP Discord chat rooms for props and betting.

PrizePicks Over/Under DFS Props Contests

PrizePicks has two types of games. The first type of game is known as Fantasy Score, which consists of selecting various players and trying to determine if they will go over or under their projected fantasy points in a game.

The second game is known as Single Stat. For the MLB, Single Stat consists of pitcher strikeout props in which you determine if the pitcher in question will go over or under their projected strikeout total.

You can mix and match players from different types of games in your entry or select all of your plays from the same type of game. Once you have selected your players and props, you can choose the aforementioned flex play or power play option. Let's see what the board offers today!

MLB DFS Props - Over/Under Picks for Today

Brayan Bello less than 4.5 strikeouts

Bello has failed to eclipse this total in five of his previous eight starts and has a very difficult matchup this afternoon against the Astros. Over the previous three weeks, Houston has posted the seventh-lowest K rate vs. right-handers with a rate of 20.3%. They are also posting a superb walk rate that is north of 10%, which could get Bello into trouble as he has walked two or more batters in four of his previous six starts. Bello has also been worse on the road in terms of strikeouts as noted by his 6.9 K/9 compared to an 8.0 mark at home.

Andrew Heaney less than 5.0 strikeouts

Heaney has a tough matchup against the Twins on the road tonight. over the previous three weeks, Minnesota is posting a K rate of 23% vs. left-handers, which ranks in the top half of baseball. They are also posting a solid wRC+ mark of 124 over that same span, which ranks 10th-best in baseball over that span. Meanwhile, Heaney has failed to eclipse this total in seven of his previous eight games. He has also posted a K rate that is 1.3 less in terms of K/9 on the road compared to at home.

We will stay in the same game for this one as Lopez will be up against a Ranger squad that is scuffling just a bit right now. Over the previous three weeks, Texas has posted the ninth-highest K rate vs. right-handers over the previous three weeks with a rate of 25.2%. They have also reduced their wRC+ mark over that same span to 101, which is a far cry from where they have been most of the season. Lopez has also struck out at least seven batters in seven of his previous eight games and has posted an 11.3 K/9 mark at home this season.

This is a tad dicey, but it is currently -125 on the books as of this writing. Kelly has only eclipsed this total in four of his previous nine starts, but he will be at home in this one where he has posted a K/9 mark north of nine and has a tremendous matchup against the Reds tonight. Over the previous three weeks, the Reds are posting the second-highest K rate in baseball vs. right-handers with a rate of 29.2%.
