Today's DFS Prop Picks (Saturday, 8/5/23)

Welcome to our PrizePicks MLB DFS prop picks for Saturday, August 5, 2023. The 2023 MLB season is underway here at RotoBaller, and we have you covered with some terrific plays from our friends over at PrizePicks.

PrizePicks is a great DFS fantasy picks site where you can choose to select plays in terms of fantasy points or single stats. The goal is to build a 2-player, 3-player, 4-player, or 5-player entry and then select whether or not you want to play for the power play or the flex play. On the power play, you will need to be correct on each of your selections to win, and on the flex play, you will have a little more wiggle room for a chance to win some money back. At PrizePicks, you're not playing against other people, you're just playing against the projections, and the guys at PrizePicks have worked hard to give you really attractive opportunities to make some money.

Announcement: We have two awesome new Props Optimizers for the MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and NCAA! The PrizePicks Optimizer and Prop Bets Optimizer are both available in our new Props Premium Package, which includes exclusive access to RotoBaller's VIP Discord chat rooms for props and betting.

PrizePicks Over/Under DFS Props Contests

PrizePicks has two types of games. The first type of game is known as Fantasy Score, which consists of selecting various players and trying to determine if they will go over or under their projected fantasy points in a game.

The second game is known as Single Stat. For the MLB, Single Stat consists of pitcher strikeout props in which you determine if the pitcher in question will go over or under their projected strikeout total.

You can mix and match players from different types of games in your entry or select all of your plays from the same type of game. Once you have selected your players and props, you can choose the aforementioned flex play or power play option. Let's see what the board offers today!

MLB DFS Props - Over/Under Picks for Today

Verlander returns to his old team with the Astros and will be facing the New York Yankees tonight. Over the previous three weeks, the Yankees have posted the 12th-highest K rate vs. right-handed pitchers with a rate of 24.3%. Meanwhile, Verlander has managed to at least push this number in two of his previous three starts, including a six-strikeout performance against these Yankees. He probably makes the most sense in a flex play this afternoon.

Aaron Civale less than 5.0 strikeouts

Civale has been tricky this season, however, he is not typically known as a high-strikeout pitcher. He has struck out five or more batters just twice in his previous six starts. While the Tigers have struggled a bit vs. righties this season, they are currently ranked in the middle of the pack in terms of K rate vs. right-handers over the previous three weeks with a rate of 23.1%.

Michael Kopech less than 5.0 strikeouts

Kopech just faced the Guardians and only managed to strike out two batters across his five innings of work. He has also failed to eclipse this total in each of his previous four starts and has only eclipsed it three times in the season. The Guardians are also posting the lowest K rate vs. right-handers over the previous three weeks with a rate of 16.8%.

Kirby has struck out at least seven batters in each of his previous three starts, racking up a total of 26 strikeouts across 16 innings pitched. He will be up against the Angels, who have posted the third-highest K rate over the previous three weeks vs. right-handers with a rate of 27.8%. The only concern here is that the Angels' offense has also posted a walk rate north of 10% and a wRC+ mark of 110 over this same span. The risk factor is definitely present.
