Toronto Blue Jays vs Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction 7-14-23 MLB Picks

The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Toronto Blue Jays meet Thursday in MLB action from Rogers Centre. Arizona is coming off a series versus the Pirates last weekend, winning two of three games. Arizona Diamondbacks

Arizona beat the Pirates 7-3 Friday and 3-2 Saturday. The Sunday game ended up being a 4-2 loss, however. The Diamondbacks finished the first half of the season at 52-39. That puts the team in a first-place tie with the Los Angeles Dodgers (51-38) atop the NL West. 

For the starter job on Friday the Diamondbacks will go with Ryne Nelson. This year Nelson is 5-5 with a 5.19 ERA in 18 starts. Nelson has 65 Ks in 93.2 total innings. He’s 6-6 with a 4.58 career ERA in 21 starts. 

Toronto Blue Jays 

Over on the Blue Jays’ side, they took on the Tigers last weekend and lost Saturday 2-0. The other two games were wins 12-2 and 4-3, however. Toronto sits at 50-41 overall and in third place in the AL East. 

Toronto will go with Jose Berrios in the Friday start. Berrios is 8-6 with a 3.50 ERA and 101 strikeouts this season. 

The Diamondbacks have covered the run line in 53 of their last 88 and the money line in 52 of their last 90 games. Arizona has hit the over in 23 of their last 57 games.

Meanwhile, the Jays have covered the run line in 24 of their last 65 and the money line in five of their last six. Toronto has hit the under in 23 of their last 40 at home.

I may take a stab on the Diamondbacks in this one. Nelson needs a good bounce-back start, though. He’s coming off seven earned in just 3.0 finings on nine hits and no walks against the Mets on July 6. The good news is that Nelson had been pitching well prior to that, going 2-0 in his previous two starts with two earned in 14.1 combined innings on six hits and three walks. A quality outing would go a long way here, but Arizona will have to score a few as well.
