Tuesday horse racing betting tips: Picks for Brighton and Stratford

Renowned Journalist and Broadcaster Ed Quigley aka 'Longshot Ted' fired in a winning double on Saturday and shares his best bets ahead of Tuesday's action.

Ted's bets for Tuesday, 4th July:

  • Brighton 2.25 - Vitesse Du Son - bet with Tote
  • Brighton 2.57 - Lucidity - bet with William Hill
  • Stratford 7.10 - Sea Prince - bet with BetVictor
  • Stratford 8.10 - Line Of Descent- bet with bet365

Brighton 2.25 - Vitesse Du Son

VITESSE DU SON had been in the doldrums in recent times, until an improved effort over 7f at this venue last time out. He rallied well inside the closing stages, but he shapes as though a return to the winners enclosure isn't far away, and will benefit from the step back up to 1m. Infact, this 6-year-old's last win on turf came over course and distance, so commands plenty of respect returning to this trip.

He is versatile in regards to ground, but the likelihood of fast underfoot conditions won't be an issue should they materialise. From a BHA mark of 52, he is now 1lb lower than the last time he was in the winner's enclosure so looks to be on a fair mark. Christian Howarth takes the ride claiming 5lb, and combined they look to have major claims for the Alice Haynes stable.

Brighton 2.57 - Lucidity

It is all about the step up in trip here for LUCIDITY, a filly who looks as though she will really be suited by this step up to 10f. She showed improved form over the extended 1m at Nottingham last time out on Handicap debut, giving every indication that there will be a lot more to come once this filly is presented with a thorough test of stamina.

It is also worth noting that the form of the Nottingham race is working out an absolute treat - winners galore have been flying out of that race and so the Ed Dunlop team may well feel delighted in getting a pound back from the Handicapper on the back of that effort. Neil Callan takes the ride on the daughter of Zoffany who can take her form to new levels here.

Stratford 7.10 - Sea Prince

Alex Hales has his string in fine fettle at present, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see this 7-year-old SEA PRINCE get back in the winners enclosure here. The gelding destroyed the field over course and distance last summer on his only previous visit to this track and should really benefit from a return to this venue. Runner-up on his seasonal reappearance at Southwell, that run should have him tuned up perfectly for this, and off a mark 2lb lower he looks to have every chance here. Underfoot conditions should be spot on for him, and he is the one to beat in my view with Harry Bannister taking the ride on the son of Born To Sea.

Stratford 8.10 - Line Of Descent

LINE OF DESCENT took the field apart at Southwell last time out, and if arriving in the same vein of form could take some stopping once again under a penalty. The 5-year-old is a progressive sort who has won three of his last four starts and is clearly going from strength to strength for the rejuvenated Warren Greatrex team. He is a bold, positive jumper who could take some pegging back once again given the manner in which he attacks his fences. The excellent Sean Bowen is on board, and this previous course and distance winner looks to have major claims once again. Good ground and flat tracks appear to really suit, so he looks a major player.

Don't forget Ed will be back on Saturday as he previews a blockbuster day of action at Sandown on Eclipse Day at the Esher venue.
