Tuesday August 8th horse racing betting tips: Picks for Ffos Las and Catterick

Top Tipster and Journalist, Ed Quigley aka 'Longshot Ted' serves up his best bets for all the action on Tuesday.

Ted's bets for Tuesday, August 8th:

  • Ffos Las 3.05 - Devil's Point - bet with Tote
  • Catterick 3.25 - Portelet Bay each-way - bet with William Hill
  • Ffos Las 3.40 - Kynsa - bet with bet365
  • Catterick 5.10 - Jamil - bet with BetVictor

Ffos Las 3.05 - Devil's Point

There was a lot to like about the debut of DEVIL'S POINT, and the colt can take a step forward to land this maiden. The son of New Bay ran an eye-catching race to finish on his first start on a racetrack, coming fifth in what looked a hot race on paper. He was sluggish from the gates, but ran a good race in the circumstances, and should find things easier dropping into a Class 4.

On pedigree, much slower ground shouldn't pose a problem, and if anything should enhance his credentials. This doesn't look like the strongest of races on paper and the booking of Oisin Murphy heightens confidence. The David Menuisier trained representative looks to have the tools to get the job done here.

Catterick 3.25 - Portelet Bay each-way

This is a very trappy encounter where I wouldn't want to be playing anything at cramped odds. Over half the field are separated by just 2lbs on official figures so a case can be made for a few of these in this Classified Stakes.

PORTELET BAY has been a little frustrating in recent times, but does boast winning form at the course, and plenty of cut underfoot shouldn't pose much of an issue for the 5-year-old who goes in search of his first win this year.

I thought his run at Wolverhampton last time out showed that a return to 7f would be a welcome return as he looked a little outpaced when the taps were turned on, before staying on. The David Evans team have been amongst the winners lately, and with the services of Ben Curtis in the saddle, the combination rate an each-way play in this wide-open contest.

Ffos Las 3.40 - Kynsa

KYNSA has been improving with every start, and ran her best to date when finishing runner-up at Carlisle on Handicap debut last time out. That was a solid effort in defeat, and drops in class for this assignment, but gets to race off the same mark.

She tackled rain-softened ground for the first time and coped with it fine on her most recent spin which gives plenty of confidence about Kynsa handling what should be very testing ground at the Welsh venue. This unexposed sort gets the nod from me to see off her 6 rivals - including the in-form Covert Mission.

Saffie Osborne takes the ride for her father Jamie, and this combination look to be the value play here.

Catterick 5.10 - Jamil

JAMIL has an outstanding record at Catterick, and is given the nod once more to enhance his wonderful record at the venue. Form figures of 11131 over Course and Distance tell you all you need to know about how well this individual is very much on 'home turf.'

The form of the recent win has also taken a boost, with the third placed horse coming out and getting the job done subsequently. A 4lb higher mark shouldn't pose a problem and very much looks like the one to beat once again.

Ryan Sexton takes the ride claiming 3lb, and looks to have the credentials required to notch another win at the track to add to the CV.
