Cleveland Guardians at New York Mets

The Cleveland Guardians stay on the road Sunday afternoon for game one of two on the day in New York against the New York Mets. Cleveland comes into Sunday four games with low .500 on the year following a one run loss in game one of this series. Cal Quantrill got the start for Cleveland giving up three runs on six hits across 5.2 innings of work. The Cleveland bullpen was terrible giving up four more runs on two hits over the next 3.1 innings before Emmanuel Clase came on and relieved to give up three runs on four hits after recording just two outs leading to the loss.

Offensively Cleveland was fantastic in the game with eleven hits in 38 bats but just five with runners in scoring position left five men on base. Josh Naylor led the way for the Cleveland offense with three hits in five at bats including a three run home run to drive in three total run the game. Cam Gallagher and Gabriel Arias chipped in two runs each, while two other Cleveland players drove in one run apiece.

The New York Mets remain at home Sunday afternoon at an even 23-23 on the year riding a three-game win streak after the narrow win and 10 innings in game one of this series. Carlos Carrasco got the start for New York giving up five runs on five hits in five innings resulting in a no decision. The New York bullpen was fantastic giving up just two runs on five hits over the next 4 innings before Drew Smith allowed just two runs on one hit across the final inning to pick up the victory.

Offensively New York did just enough with twelve hits in 42 at bats including six with runners in scoring position to drive in 10 total runs. Pete Alonso led the charge for the New York offense with one hit in five at bats including a grand slam in the 7th inning to drive in four total runs. Francisco Alvarez contributed two hits in four at bats to drive in two runs, while four other Mets drove in one run each.

The New York Mets seem to be figuring things out as of late and will continue to roll at home. The Mets have the better arm on the mound and that is huge in game 1 of a double header. Look for New York to ride Scherzer throughout leading to the win in game 1 on Sunday. Final Score Prediction, New York Mets win 6-1.
