Colorado Rockies at Chicago Cubs 3/14/23
The Colorado Rockies will be in Mesa, AZ Tuesday night for a spring training game against the Chicago Cubs. Colorado comes into Tuesday night three games below .500 this spring after losing four the last five including two in a row after a 10-9 lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks. TJ Zeuch got the start for Colorado giving up six runs on six hits across two innings of work resulting in a no decision. Karl Kaufmann came on in relief to give up two runs on five hits after recording 8 outs leading to the loss, while the rest of the Colorado bullpen allowed two runs on seven hits over the final 3.1 innings of the game.
Offensively Colorado hit this ball extremely well compiling 14 hits and 41 at bats including five hits with runners in scoring position to plate nine runs. Mike Moustakas led the way for the Colorado offense with two hits and three at bats including a solo home run in the third inning to drive in two total runs. Harold Castro chipped into the Colorado offense with one hit and three at bats to drive in two runs as well, while four other Rockies drove in one run each.
The Chicago Cubs come into Tuesday with ten wins this spring after losing two of the last three following a 5-3 lost to the Milwaukee Brewers. Adrian Sampson got the start for Chicago giving up three runs on six hits across 4 innings resulting in the loss. The Chicago bullpen pitched well before Brandon Hughes came on a relief to give up two runs on three hits across one inning in the game.
The Chicago offense struggled immensely with only five hits in 33 bats including no hits with runners in scoring position to leave four men on base. Ian Happ was the biggest spark in the Chicago lineup with one hit in three at bats to drive in two of the three Chicago runs. Nelson Maldonado chipped in for Chicago as well driving in the 3rd Cubs round of the game.
The Chicago Cubs are playing much better baseball coming into Tuesday and will continue that trend against the struggling Colorado team. Take Chicago to do enough to get the win Tuesday night.
