Chicago Cubs at Colorado Rockies 3/5/23
The Chicago Cubs will be in Arizona Sunday afternoon for a spring training game against the Colorado Rockies. Chicago comes into Sunday 4-4 thus far this spring writing the two game win streak following a 6-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics. Marcus Stroman took the mound for Chicago against Oakland giving up no runs on two hits across 2.1 innings of work resulting in the victory. The Chicago bullpen combined to allow only one run on five hits over the final 6.2 innings to secure the win.
Offensively Chicago hit the ball extremely well compiling eight hits in 28 bats, while going 4-10 with runners in scoring position to leave only three men on base. Nick Madrigal led the way for the Chicago offense with two hits and three at bats to drive in two of the six Chicago runs. Chicago used a balanced attack for the rest of the game as three other players drove in one run each.
The Colorado Rockies come into Sunday one game below .500 this spring riding a 3 game skid following a 6-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Noah Davis got the start for Colorado giving up three runs on three hits across 3 innings of work resulting in the no decision. The Chicago bullpen went on to allow one run on four hits before Jeff Criswell gave up two runs on five hits after recording 5 outs leading to the loss.
Offensively Colorado struggled a bit with only eight hits in the game including an abysmal 4-9 with runners in scoring position to leave five men on base. Charlie Blackmon led the way for the Colorado offense with two hits and three at bats to drive in one run and scored another run as well. Colorado used their depth for the rest of the game as two other players drove in one run each.
The Chicago Cubs are playing the better baseball coming into Thursday and will continue that trend against a struggling Colorado team. Look for Colorado to continue to have issues as Chicago will overpower the Rockies in this matchup. Take Chicago to do enough Sunday in Arizona to get their fifth win of the spring.
