2023 Barracuda Championship odds, picks, bets: Surprising PGA predictions from model that nailed 9 majors

Troy Merritt missed the cut in every individual event that he played in from January 1 to July 1, but he has posted back-to-back top-20 finishes since then. He finished as the runner-up at the Barracuda Championship in both 2019 and 2020, yet he is a 100-1 longshot in the 2023 Barracuda Championship odds. Meanwhile, Chez Reavie is hoping to defend his title from the 2022 edition of this event. He is a 40-1 longshot on the PGA Tour odds board, despite posting a pair of top-10s this season.

Stephan Jaeger and Keith Mitchell are the 18-1 co-favorites, making them the top golfers in the 2023 Barracuda Championship field. Should you back either of them with your 2023 Barracuda Championship bets? Before locking in your 2023 Barracuda Championship picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up more than $10,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. And at the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, the model included Nick Taylor in its best bets to win the 2023 RBC Canadian Open. That bet hit at +7000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,900. McClure's best bets also included Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This same model has also nailed a whopping nine majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the 2023 Barracuda Championship field is set, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2023 Barracuda Championship predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the Barracuda Championship 2023: Sam Bennett, who made a run at the Masters in April and is one of the top favorites this week, stumbles and fails to crack the top 10. He burst onto the scene as an amateur, shooting a 4-under-par opening round at the Masters in April, carding the first bogey-free round by an amateur in 30 years. Bennett also became the first amateur to be in the top 10 after three rounds at Augusta National since 1964.

However, he has not finished better than T20 at his five PGA tournaments since then, including a missed cut at the Travelers Championship. Bennett turned professional in May following the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship. He still lacks experience on the PGA Tour, so the model is not interested in backing him as one of the top favorites this week.

Another surprise: Justin Suh, a 35-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Suh is an up-and-coming star, topping the Korn Ferry Tour Points List last season before finishing tied for sixth in his debut at The Players Championship.

He has only missed one cut since October, carding a top-20 finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Suh is one of the best putters on the PGA Tour, ranked just outside the top 10 in strokes gained in that statistic. The 26-year-old is still undervalued due to his relative newness to the PGA Tour, making him a valuable longshot this week. See who else to pick here.

The model is also targeting three other golfers with odds of 28-1 or longer to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's Barracuda Championship picks here.
