2023 U.S. Open Picks & Predictions: Who Will Win at L.A. Country Club?

Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, and Rory McIlroy head to Los Angeles Country Club as the favorites for the third golf major of the year. Here are our best 2023 U.S. Open picks and predictions.

As we've scoured the U.S. Open odds from our best sports betting apps over the course of the last year, there's been plenty of movement from the top of the board on down. However, we're getting some of the best prices we've seen to date for several of our favorite U.S. Open picks just days away from the first tee times for the third major of the year.

Professional course history at Los Angeles Country Club won't be a tool for bettors to lean on this week, but many of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf veterans are native to California and will vie for the home state crown.

Read on for our top 2023 U.S. Open picks and predictions at L.A. Country Club (odds via our best sports betting sites).

Best U.S. Open picks & predictions

Jon Rahm to win (+1100 via FanDuel)

Rahm opened 2023 with consensus odds of +1000 to win his second U.S. Open. After winning thrice in the first seven weeks of the year, Rahm won the Masters at odds as high as +1000. His odds to win the U.S. Open settled at a consensus of +800 following the first major of 2023.

However, now that Rahm hasn't won since early April and produced a disappointing T-50 showing in the PGA Championship, we're being gifted these +1100 odds via FanDuel. Scheffler's continued contention in every event he plays this season, plus the rise in popularity for Brooks Koepka after his PGA Championship victory are forcing the best sportsbooks to elevate Rahm's odds in hopes of spreading out betting action.

Now is when bettors need to capitalize and pounce on the second-ranked golfer in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).

Two of Rahm's first three victories this year came in California, as did his first career major win at Torrey Pines in 2021. Scheffler is continuing to struggle with his putter, so I'll put my faith in Rahm to prevail once again in the always-difficult U.S. Open conditions.

Jordan Spieth (+3200 via FanDuel)

Spieth is heating up just in time for the third major of the season. His T-5 finish in the Memorial Tournament (against an elevated PGA Tour field) came with 1.07 strokes gained: off-the-tee per round and amid a rare poor putting performance. I'm leaning on that improved play with the driver while knowing we can always count on his short-game prowess.

The Texas native won his first U.S. Open in 2015. His play on and around the greens were big reasons why, and that skill set is very well-suited to the staple U.S. Open conditions of thick rough, and firm and fast putting surfaces.

Collin Morikawa to win (+3400 via FanDuel)

Like with Spieth, we're going to target the recent form of Morikawa and capitalize on a higher-than-normal price point for the two-time major winner, all while DraftKings is still posting his U.S. Open odds set at a conservative +2000.

Morikawa's putting has been in shambles throughout 2023 as he enters the week of the U.S. Open ranked 143rd on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: putting. However, he ranks second among qualified golfers in SG: approach over everyone's last 20 measured rounds, and Morikawa is also ranked in the top flight in SG: tee-to-green.

The 26-year-old was in contention before being forced to withdraw from the Memorial Tournament due to back spasms, and he was actually gaining 0.84 strokes per round with his putter on the difficult greens of Muirfield Village Golf Club. He hails from Los Angeles, and we'll hope he can continue his improved putting on familiar surfaces.

His first major victory was at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco during the 2020 PGA Championship.
