Tuesday tennis acca: Novak Djokovic to test another contender

Novak Djokovic will face Jannik Sinner in a highly-anticipated ATP Finals group-stage clash between the year-end No 1 and the No 4.

Sinner has had a sensational campaign and is soaking in the home support as he plays in front of his countrymen in Turin.

He is the first Italian to notch two ATP Finals match wins as well as the first to win a Masters title.

Djokovic snuffed out a spirited fightback from Holger Rune to secure his year-end No 1 status in his first match in Turin and now sets his sights on another title.

Rune showed plenty that he will be pleased about in that clash and will be out to stay in the running when he faces Stefanos Tsitsipas in Tuesday's first singles match.

Tsitsipas didn't get going in his loss to Sinner first time out, with the Italian snatching the initiative early and never surrendering it.

There will be a lesson there for Rune, who will want to unsettle the more powerful player.

ATP Finals: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Holger Rune

On current form, Stefanos Tsitsipas might well struggle to take a set off Holger Rune.

Rune already holds a 2-0 record against Tsitsipas and won't be too disheartened by losing to the juggernaut that is Djokovic.

The Dane has been installed as favourite and is short on most sportsbooks, but backing him for a straight-sets win and Tsitsipas to not win a set can help you scratch some value out of that outcome.

Rune has won three sets of tennis against Tsitsipas by the score of 6-4, and that's a good place to go for a set score prediction.

ATP Finals: Novak Djokovic vs Jannik Sinner

Djokovic has beaten Sinner in all three of their previous meetings and, in two of those, won in straight sets.

The outlier in their clashes was their 2022 Wimbledon meeting when Sinner took a two-set lead but couldn't close the match out.

Looking at the players heading into the contest, the 2022 meeting could give us a blueprint for this contest, with Sinner a solid punt to take the opening set but still lose the match.

Djokovic seems to thrive on clutch moments, and if you were to script it, you'd have him win a second-set tiebreak to stay in the match, and he so often delivers these kinds of moments.
