Betting tips for Liverpool vs Chelsea: Premier League preview and odds

Our expert backs Liverpool to win 2-1 in his betting tips for their huge clash with Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday

A much-changed Liverpool responded to the woeful performance at Brighton by edging past Wolves in the FA Cup and now they will hope to get the better of an out-of-sorts and injury-hit Chelsea in the league at Anfield on Saturday (kick-off, 12.30pm).

Blues to continue for Potter

Saturday’s early kick-off brings together two recent European champions who were expected to challenge for a top-four place but are both trying desperately to kick-start stuttering campaigns.

The Reds are ninth, one place ahead of the Blues having played a game fewer, but have lost their past two top-flight matches. Chelsea have won just one of their previous five matches in all competitions – a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace last time out.

However, Liverpool remain formidable opponents at Anfield, and have lost just once at home in all competitions all season and with just over half the season remaining, they will still believe they can resurrect their hopes of a top-four finish.

All four meetings between the sides last season finished in draws after 90 minutes, Liverpool winning both domestic cup finals in penalty shoot-outs, but Chelsea have lost five of nine league matches on the road and we think Liverpool will shade this one.

Tip: Liverpool to win and both teams to score @ 23/10 with Betfred

Reds to exploit Chelsea’s travel bug

Backing a correct score is always risky but 2-1 remains a very popular outcome and that’s our selection for this season’s first meeting between the sides.

Liverpool have scored in every home league match at Anfield – Derby County are the only side to have kept the home side off the scoresheet at home in a League Cup tie – while Chelsea’s recent away record in all competitions is a dismal five defeats and a draw in the past six.

Both teams have scored in four of the last six league meetings and, with neither side near their best, especially in defence, expect chances and goals at both ends.

Trent in hot water again

Combining a home win with Trent Alexander-Arnold picking up a card over the course of the game seems solid Betfred #PickYourPunt value at 13/2.

Alexander-Arnold was rested for the win at Wolves but should return at right-back this weekend, where he is set to go up against England colleague Mason Mount.

Alexander-Arnold’s desire to get forward often means he is chasing back to defend and he may well receive a booking giving away a foul to stop a quick Chelsea counter-attack.

The Liverpool defender has picked up three yellow cards in the league so far this season and may well be back in the book this weekend.
