Betting tips for Brighton vs Liverpool: FA Cup Cup preview and odds

Belfast Telegraph

Brighton and Liverpool meet for the second time in the space of two weeks when they clash in the fourth round of the FA Cup at the Amex Stadium on Sunday (kick-off, 1.30pm).

The Seagulls eased to a 3-0 win when Liverpool visited the south coast on January 14, courtesy of a Solly March brace and a strike from Danny Welbeck.

That triumph got Brighton back on track after successive home losses against Arsenal and Aston Villa, although they have since drawn on the road at Leicester City.

Liverpool have played twice since that defeat, beating Wolves 1-0 in an FA Cup third-round replay at Molineux before a goalless draw at home to Chelsea in the league.

Brighton have picked up four points from their two meetings with Liverpool in the league this term, drawing 3-3 at Anfield in Roberto de Zerbi’s first game in charge, and will be confident of continuing their journey in the FA Cup.

Reds to come unstuck on the road

Liverpool face a battle to secure a top-four spot in the Premier League this season as they sit ninth and trail fourth-placed Manchester United by 10 points.

Their struggles come down to a terrible record on the road this term and that will be a concern when they head to Brighton.

The Reds have won 10 of their 15 games at home across all competitions, losing just once, however, in 14 away fixtures, they’ve lost seven times, drawn two and won only five.

One of those defeats came at Brighton this month and it was a hugely convincing triumph for the Seagulls, who are three places and two points better off than Liverpool in the Premier League.

De Zerbi has done a fine job in continuing to build momentum after replacing Graham Potter in the dugout and a run in the cup will be high on his agenda.

It’s more likely that Jurgen Klopp, who will be focused on improving his side’s fortunes in the league, will look to rotate rather than De Zerbi and a strong Brighton XI is expected.

Seagulls to seal high-scoring triumph

There has been no shortage of excitement when Brighton have taken to the field this season, especially since De Zerbi took the reins.

Only Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham have scored more goals than the Seagulls in the Premier League.

Brighton have scored three goals or more in eight of their 17 outings across all competitions with De Zerbi in charge, including in both of their previous meetings with Liverpool.

But Brighton’s attacking intent tends to come with consequences as they’ve only managed to keep two clean sheets during that sequence.

With that in mind, another high-scoring affair, with both teams scoring, looks to be on the cards at the Amex.

Returning Nunez one to watch

Darwin Nunez has yet to fulfil expectations at Liverpool following a big-money summer switch from Benfica, scoring nine goals in 23 games, but injuries have prevented him from getting a consistent run in the side.

The Uruguay forward is just returning from his latest spell on the sidelines and featured from the bench against Chelsea last weekend.

He is likely to be named in the starting XI at Brighton and looks a good candidate to register 2+ shots on target at 9/4.

Nunez has had 2+ shots on target in eight of his last 11 starts and Brighton’s vulnerability at the back should mean he is afforded chances.
