Blue Jays picks and odds vs. Rockies Sept. 3: Bet on Toronto to score first and win series finale

The Toronto Blue Jays and Colorado Rockies play out the rubber match of their series on Sunday.

The pregame narrative: Toronto has a hefty pitching edge with ace Kevin Gausman on the bump and we're backing the club to score first and win. Despite two high-scoring games to open this series, we're looking to take the under on another high total at Coors Field.

MLB oddsas of 9:20 a.m. ET on 09/03/2023.

Blue Jays picks vs. Rockies

Best Bet: Blue Jays to score 1st and win (-136)

Toronto has scored first and won a game in this series, but it has failed to do both in the same contest.

We're expecting that to change on Sunday.

Picking Toronto on the moneyline (-250) is a difficult bet to make with all the vig attached to the wager. So we're adding the team to score first to lower the cost and back the Blue Jays at a reasonable price.

Batting first is a big edge in Toronto's chances of doing so, and it only helps that Rockies pitcher Chase Anderson has struggled early in his outings.

Anderson has been strong in the first inning, but it goes downhill quickly after that.

He's also making his first start since July 22 after a stint on the injured list. He has a brutal 6.08 ERA and an equally bad 6.10 FIP this season.

Key stat: The Rockies have lost four of Anderson's last six appearances.

Quick picks

Under 11.5 runs (-104): While Toronto's offence should tee off on Anderson, we're not expecting Colorado to do much against Gausman.

The Blue Jays righty (and Colorado native) pairs a strong 3.30 ERA with a sterling 2.83 FIP, the latter of which is the third-best mark in MLB.

Naturally, the under on this total has cashed in 22 of his 26 appearances.

Even for as bad as Anderson has been this season, the under on this wager has cashed more often than not (8/14).
