History in Brighton’s favour

Pep Guardiola has played up the importance of this game ahead of Manchester City’s FA Cup final with Manchester United and Champions League final against Inter Milan next month. However, there is a lot more on the line for Brighton who need a point from their final two games to confirm their qualification for the Europa League.

The Seagulls have won seven of their past 10 Premier League home games and will be hopeful of beating a City side who have been celebrating securing a third consecutive Premier League title at the weekend. There is precedent for a Brighton win as they beat Guardiola’s side 3-2 at the end of the 2020-21 season after City had just won the title.

It may not be wise to bet against City though, who have won their last 12 Premier League games, so we have hedged our bets by going for a ‘draw no bet’ selection.

Bet boost to good to ignore

Our second tip is a Unibet bet boost for Evan Ferguson and Julian Alvarez to both have over 0.5 shots on target. Ferguson has been talked up by Roberto De Zerbi this week and the 18-year-old took his tally to 10 goals for the season in all competitions in the 3-1 win over Southampton last week.

The young Irishman averages 1.75 shots on target per 90 minutes this season and this selection would have landed in two of his previous three starts. Against a City side who do not need anything from the match, he should be confident of having at least one shot on target this evening.

Even if City do rotate, Alvarez should start after scoring the only goal in his side’s win over Chelsea at the weekend. The Argentinian has had at least one shot on target in nine of his previous 10 starts so he is a safe selection to do so again if he is named in the starting XI.

Veltman faces testing evening

Joel Veltman returned to the Brighton starting XI at the weekend to help De Zerbi with his right-back crisis but he picked up a yellow card as he showed signs of rustiness.

The 31-year-old recently missed four games with injury but has now been shown a yellow card in each of his previous three top-flight appearances and City should cause him more problems.

It will be one of Jack Grealish, Phil Foden or even Cole Palmer who starts up against Veltman. Only two players have been fouled more than Grealish in the Premier League this season while Foden and Palmer, who was fouled twice against Chelsea, can also cause the Dutchman issues.
