The Kyle Whittingham-led Utes are known for their physicality, but matching that intensity was no issue for the Ducks. Oregon trounced Utah 35-6, snapping the Utes’ 18-game home winning streak.

As evidenced by the final score, it was a true team effort, as both sides of the ball excelled in the Ducks’ victory. The offense gained 390 yards and scored three touchdowns, while the defense held Utah to 241 yards and forced two turnovers that iced the game before the fourth quarter began.

Up next is a showdown with a Cal team looking to snap a three-game losing skid. The Golden Bears have beaten only one Pac-12 foe and are 0-4 vs. ranked teams.

This is a favorable matchup for the Ducks, considering Cal’s abysmal defense gives up 33 points per game. Even Utah, the second-worst scoring offense in the conference, lit up the scoreboard in a 34-14 victory over the Golden Bears.

Even the best teams in the nation have close games vs. inferior teams on occasion, but Oregon has avoided that through eight games. The Ducks have won six of seven games by 14 points or more, with the outlier being an eight-point road victory vs. Texas Tech.

Dan Lanning is a top-tier motivator and has gotten the most out of his team every week, as the Ducks sport a 6-1-1 record against the spread. That streak promises to continue because a second loss would knock Oregon out of College Football Playoff contention, leaving no margin for error in the final four games.

Cal has struggled against the creme of the crop in the Pac-12, losing by an average of 19 points vs. Washington, Oregon State, and Utah. The Golden Bears are coming off a heartbreaking 50-49 setback vs. USC, but that speaks more to the Trojans’ inability to put away lesser opponents.

With 2,337 yards, 21 touchdowns, and one interception, Bo Nix is having a phenomenal season. Nix is listed at +600 to win the Heisman Trophy, trailing only Michael Penix, J.J. McCarthy, and Jayden Daniels.

The Ducks QB has eclipsed 260 yards through the air in four of his last five games, with the outlier coming in last week’s blowout win over Utah. Oregon ball carriers gained 142 yards on the ground, leaving little work to be done by Nix and Ducks pass catchers.

Expect another impressive outing from Bo vs. a Cal defense allowing 262 passing yards per game.
