Expect a stalemate at Stamford Bridge

After taking four points off Tottenham and Manchester City, Chelsea seemed to be back on track in the Premier League, but a 4-1 mauling at Newcastle last time out undid a lot of the good work done by the Blues.

Boss Mauricio Pochettino described the defeat to the Magpies as the club’s worst game of the season as they conceded three times in 23 minutes in the second half, having gone into the break at 1-1.

The 73rd-minute sending-off of Reece James did not help matters and he joins a lengthy list of Chelsea absentees, including Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia, Trevoh Chalobah, Carney Chukwuemeka, Ben Chilwell and Christopher Nkunku.

Brighton also have a number of players unavailable, including Solly March, Danny Welbeck, Julio Enciso and Tariq Lamptey.

The Seagulls have won only one of their past seven matches in the Premier League, including four draws, and backing a stalemate looks the way to go when these teams clash in west London today.

Another high-scoring clash on the cards for the Blues

Although a draw looks the most likely outcome, this game should not be a snoozefest.

Chelsea have been involved in some of the best matches of the season recently, having recorded a pulsating 4-4 result with Manchester City in their previous home fixture after a frenetic 4-1 win at Tottenham that featured five disallowed goals.

Indeed, five of the Blues’ past seven games in all competitions have produced over 3.5 goals and that looks like another decent play at Stamford Bridge.

The goals have also been flying in at both ends when Brighton are involved. Both teams have scored in all 13 of the Seagulls’ Premier League assignments this term.

Chelsea vs Brighton tip 2: Over 3.5 goals @ 5/4 with Sky Bet

Pedro can cause problems for hosts

Punters should begin their bet builder for this contest with over 2.5 goals, given that Brighton’s league fixtures are averaging 3.92 goals per game – the highest figure in the entire division.

Both teams have looked suspect at the back but offer a decent threat going forward, so that punt should not disappoint.

If Brighton do find a way through the Blues, Joao Pedro is a likely candidate to hit the net and worth selecting to have at least two shots on target in west London.

Only Kaoru Mitoma (22) has managed more shots in the league for Brighton than Pedro (19) this term and the Brazilian has scored three times in his previous two games for the Seagulls.

Complete the bet builder with the visitors to have four or more corners at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

The Seagulls have racked up 69 corners in the top flight this term, meaning they are averaging 5.3 per game, and the absence of Chelsea full back James could provide them with even more opportunities down the flank.

Chelsea vs Brighton tip 3: Over 2.5 goals, Joao Pedro 2+ shots on target and Brighton to have 4+ corners @ 5/1 with Sky Bet
