Stalemate on the cards at Molineux

For the first time in 28 years, there will be a Premier League fixture on December 24 and it could be a close battle between Wolves and Chelsea at Molineux.

It has been a turbulent opening half of the season for Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues, who have won six, drawn four and lost seven of their 17 top-flight assignments

There have been signs of improvement in the past week, with Chelsea standing firm to beat Sheffield United 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in the league before knocking Newcastle out of the EFL Cup in the quarter-finals.

But the west Londoners had lost three of their four matches before that and are still dealing with a catalogue of injuries, despite the return of Christopher Nkunku up top

Wolves are not easy opponents at Molineux, where they have lost only two of their eight league assignments, and the stalemate could be the way to go with these sides having drawn eight league matches between them this term.

Wolves vs Chelsea tip 1: Draw @ 27/10 with Paddy Power

Game could deliver the gift of goals

Just because the draw looks the most likely result in the West Midlands, that does not mean this match will be short of goals.

Indeed, Chelsea have been involved in some high-scoring clashes lately, including a 4-1 win over Tottenham, a 4-4 draw with Manchester City, a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle and a 3-2 victory over Brighton since the start of November.

Four of their previous seven league fixtures have featured over 3.5 goals and Wolves’ recent fixtures have also not been low-scoring, with both teams netting in four of their previous six encounters.

Wolves vs Chelsea tip 2: Over 3.5 goals @ 2/1 with Paddy Power

Cunha should be problematic for visiting Blues

Keeping with the theme of goals, both teams to score is a decent first pick for the match bet builder.

It has clicked in 13 of Wolves’ 17 matches in the league and seven of their eight top-flight fixtures on home turf.

One player to keep an eye on going forward is Wolves ace Matheus Cunha, who is a good bet to manage a shot on target.

The Brazil international has averaged 2.4 shots on target in the Premier League this season and steered two of his four efforts on target against West Ham last time out.

Complete the bet builder, which pays out at 2.71/1, with Blues midfielder Conor Gallagher to commit two or more fouls.

Before the next batch of top-flight fixtures, he leads the way in Premier League fouls with 36, averaging 2.3 per game.

Gallagher went into the book in the midweek Carabao Cup clash with Newcastle and could again be drawn into a couple of fouls.

Wolves vs Chelsea tip 3: Bet builder – both teams to score, Matheus Cunha to have a shot on target and Conor Gallagher to commit two or more fouls @ 3/1 with Paddy Power
