Chiefs vs. Dolphins line, odds and predictions: Kansas City and Miami battle in Germany

The Athletic has live coverage of Chiefs vs Dolphins in Germany for NFL Week 9 action.

For the first time this season and just the second time in league history, the NFL will play a regular season game in Germany. The Miami Dolphins face the reigning Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs, who come into the game as slight favorites. Andy Reid looks to stay undefeated versus the Dolphins as Chiefs head coach.

Kickoff is set for 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, Germany. The game will be televised on NFL Network.

This game could be significant in the race for the top seed in the AFC. The Dolphins and Chiefs come into the game with identical 6-2 records, tied with the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars for the best in the conference.

The Chiefs, who allow the fifth-fewest yards and points per game, will attempt to slow down the offensive juggernaut that is the Dolphins. Miami has had an historic start on offense, leading the NFL in points per game as the only team averaging over 30 at 33.9. Tua Tagovailoa is playing at an MVP level, leading the Dolphins’ charge with a league-leading 2,416 passing yards and 18 passing touchdowns (tied with Kirk Cousins). Tyreek Hill is the first player this season to surpass the 1,000-receiving-yard threshold, leading the NFL in both receiving yards (1,014) and receiving touchdowns (eight). Hill is the only player in NFL history to accumulate 1,000-plus yards through the first eight games of a single season.

The story has been the same for the Chiefs since they traded away Hill prior to last season. Will anybody emerge as the top wide receiver in this offense? Patrick Mahomes has future Hall-of-Fame tight end Travis Kelce as his top pass-catching option, but someone needs to emerge as a second threat for the Chiefs. Second-round rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice has shown flashes but has a single-game high of just 72 receiving yards through the first eight games of his career. The potential is there, but he’s yet to break out.
