Cincinnati Reds vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction 9-9-23 MLB Picks

The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds meet Saturday in MLB action from Great American Ball Park. This will be the second installment in a three-game series over the weekend. In the Friday opener, St. Louis powered out a five-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals had a good series versus the Braves this week, scoring 21 runs over the first two games. In the Thursday finale St. Louis lost 8-5. On Friday versus the Reds, the Cardinals jumped out to a 6-0 lead at one point and eventually took the win 9-4. Wilson Contreras and Luken Baker each had three RBI in the victory.

In the starting pitcher slot for the Saturday game, the Cardinals are going with Zack Thompson. This year in his 21 games (five starts) Thompson is 4-5 with a 3.91 ERA. In his last seven games (five starts) Thompson is 2-2 with a 3.30 ERA.

Cincinnati Reds

Over on the Reds’ side, they were able to win two of three versus the Mariners this week despite an 8-4 loss Wednesday. Cincinnati’s Will Benson had a homer and two runs in that one. On Friday, Cincinnati got two hits, two RBI and a homer from Hunter Renfroe. Nick Senzel provided the other RBI with a solo home run.

It’ll be Carson Spiers on the mound for the Reds during Saturday’s start. In his lone start this year (the first of his career) Spiers has a 6.75 ERA with seven Ks in 4.0 innings without a decision.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably take a stab on the Cardinals here. Thompson has a few good outings under his belt lately. Over his last three appearances combined, Thomson is 2-0 with seven earned runs in 16.0 innings of work. As for Spiers, he did okay in his debut with 4.0 innings, five hits, two walks and three earned. It’ll be interesting to see what he can do for an encore. In Friday’s opener, St. Louis got off to a bad start on the mound but the pen really cleaned things up. I like the Cardinals to keep it up on Saturday.
