Cleveland Guardians

The Guardians took on the White Sox this week, losing two of three games in that set. On Friday versus the Mets, Cleveland scored two in the top of the tenth but ended up blowing the lead in a 10-9 extras loss. Starter Cal Quantrill finished with 5.2 innings, three earned and six hits.

Tanner Bibee will be the Saturday starter for the Guardians. In his four starts so far this year (the first four of his MLB career) Bibee is 1-1 with a 3.22 ERA and 22 Ks in 22.1 innings.

New York Mets

Over on the Mets’ side, they played the Rays in their last series and managed to win two of three games. On Friday New York got a grand slam from Pete Alonso (1-for-5) in the comeback victory. Carlos Carrasco finished on 5.0 innings with five earned, five hits and two walks in the start.

It’ll be Max Scherzer in the starting role Saturday for the Mets. Across six starts this season Scherzer is 3-2 with a 4.88 ERA and 26 Ks over 27.2 innings. Scherzer is 204-104 with a 3.13 ERA in 436 career games (427 starts).

The Guardians are 5-11 in their last 16 versus the NL East and 4-10 in their last 14 versus a team with a losing record. Cleveland is 4-9 in their last 13 in game two of a series.

Meanwhile, the Mets are 12-4 in their last 16 versus the AL Central and 44-19 in their last 63 at home versus a right-handed starter. The under is 4-1-1 in New York’s last six Saturday games.

I’ll stick with the Mets in this one. So long as Scherzer has a good start, that is. (The line's also a bit thick.) Scherzer put up a rough outing against Detroit early this month with six earned on eight hits and a walk in 3.1 innings. He bounced back in his last outing versus Washington however, posting a win after 5.0 innings and one earned. On Friday New York got in trouble early and ended up with a 5-0 deficit in the fifth. The Mets saw some great offensive performances in the comeback and the bullpen was solid overall. This one should be another close outcome, but I think the Mets have a decent shot at another W.
