Cleveland Guardians

The Guardians lost to the White Sox 8-3 on Tuesday and 7-2 in the Wednesday game two. In the finale, Cleveland stopped the sweep with a 3-1 win. Starting pitcher Logan Allen left after 5.2 innings with one earned on seven hits and a walk.

For the starter job in the Friday matchup the Guardians will send out Cal Quantrill. Over his eight starts this year Quantrill is 2-2 with a 3.97 ERA and 23 Ks in 45.1 innings. Quantrill is 33-18 with a 3.57 career ERA in 121 games (83 starts).

New York Mets

Over on the Mets’ side, they lost to the Rays 8-5 in the opener of that set but then eked out an 8-7 game two victory. In the rubber match New York took the series with a 3-2 win. Starting pitcher Tylor Megill managed 6.0 innings with two earned on four hits and a walk.

Carlos Carrasco will take the mound for the Mets on Friday. Across three starts this year Carrasco is 0-2 with an 8.56 ERA and eight Ks in 13.2 innings. Carrasco is 104-87 over his career with a 3.92 ERA in 286 games (239 starts).

The Guardians are 13-3 in their last 16 interleague road games and 9-3 in their last 12 Friday games. Cleveland is 5-11 in their last 16 versus the NL East.

Meanwhile, the Mets are 12-4 in their last 16 versus the AL Central and 7-16 in their last 23 overall. New York is 2-5 in their last seven in game one of a series.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably try the Guardians in this one. Quantrill is pitching pretty well these days. Over his last three starts combined, Quantrill has five earned on 13 hits and seven walks in 20.1 innings of work. He’s 1-0 in that time and has gone at least 6.0 innings in all three outings. As for Carrasco, this will be his first start off the injured list following elbow swelling due to a bone chip. Carrasco has been pretty shaky in his three starts so far, and he probably won’t be out there for too long. This should be the Guardians’ advantage if they play well.
