Reds can edge it

It is far from untypical for these lunchtime games to take a while to truly ignite and, as they did in their 2-0 win against Sheffield United in midweek, Liverpool are likely to seek to dominate the ball and keep their hosts chasing.

The visiting side had 80 per cent possession against the Blades in the opening 45 minutes, yet only a goal from Virgil van Dijk eight minutes from the break allowed them to break the deadlock.

Roy Hodgson told Palace fans they have “been spoiled” after they booed his side off after a midweek defeat at home to Bournemouth that left the Eagles winless in five on their own patch, having lost three on the trot.

Such comments from the veteran boss are a sure sign that all is not right in south London, where an injury list that includes key men such as Cheick Doucoure and Eberechi Eze is surely hampering Palace.

Both Premier League games between these sides ended level last season, producing just two goals between them. Before that, Liverpool had won 10 consecutive matches against Crystal Palace.

With the carrot of top spot in the Premier League dangling in front of them, the Merseyside men are fancied to return to winning ways in this fixture.

With pressure also mounting on Palace, the south Londoners know they must not roll over and are likely to be cautious in their approach.

Liverpool should replicate their midweek away-day template and achieve a relatively comfortable win. Jurgen Klopp’s side to win and under 3.5 goals in the match is the call at 11/8, while another 0-2 scoreline for the visitors at 13/2 also merits serious consideration.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool tip 1: Liverpool to win and under 3.5 goals @ 11/8 with Paddy Power

Salah the man

Before those low-scoring draws last season, a time when talisman Mohamed Salah was not perhaps at his best as Liverpool went through a period of transition, the Egypt forward had played eight Premier League games against Palace for the Reds and scored seven times.

Three of those goals came at Selhurst Park: a crucial strike in a 2-1 win in March 2018 and a brace in the unlikely 7-0 romp in December 2020.

Salah is already into double figures in the Premier League this season with 10, a decent tally considering he comes into this fixture off the back of a three-game blank streak in the top flight.

Hias scoreless streaks do not tend to go on much longer than that and the Reds forward could well reignite his record of netting against Palace by breaking the deadlock here.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool tip 2: Mohamed Salah to score first @ 4/1 with Paddy Power

Bank on Szoboszlai in bet builder

Summer signing Dominik Szoboszlai is finding his feet now in a Liverpool shirt and scoring the second goal in the win over Sheffield United will have done plenty for his confidence.

The 23-year-old Hungarian has featured heavily in the opening months of the season and has two goals and two assists by his name. He is a key component in the Reds’ midfield and can make a telling contribution here.

Palace’s Jefferson Lerma may come to the referee’s attention. He has been booked twice in five Premier League appearances since returning from injury and is set to face a hard-working shift against this Liverpool side.

He had seven cautions last season at Bournemouth, while in his time with the Cherries his yellow-card counts per season were 12, 13, 12 and nine before that.

Lerma is added to a bet builder that also includes at least three saves from the home goalkeeper and over 4.5 corners for a visiting side who should apply plenty of pressure across 90 minutes.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool tip 3: Bet builder: Dominik Szoboszlai to score or assist, Crystal Palace goalkeeper to make three or more saves, Liverpool over 4.5 corners and Jefferson Lerma to be carded @ 19.25/1 with Paddy Power
