Blues to persist for Everton

Everton are on a run of six matches without a win and three without a goal, while Palace have won once in 10 games, so a draw in the first meeting at Selhurst Park came as little surprise.

Sean Dyche’s side are favourites to progress tonight but, despite Goodison’s reputation as a hostile place to visit, they have struggled at home this season, winning four of 13 games and losing seven if you include the EFL Cup quarter-final defeat on penalties against Fulham.

They won 3-2 when the sides met in the league at Selhurst Park in November but it was Palace who outperformed Everton 2.17 to 1.53 on the expected goals (xG) metric.

The Eagles have had three draws, two defeats and one win in their previous six games, and held treble winners Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last month. That suggests that Roy Hodgson’s side have the quality to win and the double-chance market offers decent value at 5/6.

Bank on Branthwaite booking

Jarrad Branthwaite has been a revelation in central defence for Everton this season, but the England Under-21 player has collected six yellow cards from 22 games across all competitions, the highest tally of any player at the club.

Three of those have come in his previous six games at Goodison so it would be no surprise to see him cautioned again tonight. He faces the likes of Jean-Philippe Mateta and Eberechi Eze, who have been fouled on average one and 1.44 times per 90 minutes respectively in the Premier League this season.

Everton vs Crystal Palace tip 2: Jarrad Branthwaite to be carded @ 11/2 with William Hill

Look at unders for bet builder

The first leg of our bet builder is under 2.5 goals since, given the form of these two sides, tonight’s game is unlikely to be a goalfest.

This selection would have landed in three of Everton’s previous four home games and of Palace’s last four at home or away. That obviously includes the 0-0 draw the sides played out at Selhurst Park, in which chances were very limited.

We have also included 2.5 cards in our bet builder, a selection that would have landed in that 0-0 draw but for Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s controversial red card, which was subsequently rescinded.

While we expect Jarrad Branthwaite to be carded, there should not be more than one other player in the referee’s book. Barring the derby with Brighton, Palace average 1.25 yellow cards from their last four games while Everton have been shown just one yellow card across their last two matches.

The final leg of the bet builder focuses on the corner count and we’re backing over 8.5. There were 14 in the 0-0 draw, while Everton average 4.5 in the Premier League and Palace average four, so if those numbers play out, this selection should also land.

Everton vs Crystal Palace tip 3: Bet Builder: Under 2.5 goals, under 2.5 cards and over 8.5 total corners @ 6/1 with William Hill
