Horse racing tips and best bets for Flemington

Laurie’s having a throw at the stumps at Flemington on Saturday.

Respected value hunter Laurie Sainsbury says a horse at huge odds is worthy of an each-way bet at Flemington on Saturday.

ANA JAAHZA (Race 2 No 7) One start for this filly at Ballarat when she defeated Mollynickers. Jumped cleanly from the gates and sat outside the leader and then held off a determined challenge. The overall time wasn't flash but on the soft (5) she came home in 33.58 seconds which was marginally outside the best of the day. What I liked about the performance was the fact that Michael Dee only gave her two light smacks with the whip and she held on with something in the locker. I am imagining that the run would have improved her and it's reassuring to see Dee stick with her. BET: EACH WAY

ALEGRON (Race 5 No 4) He resumed in the Sky High over 2000m at Rosehill and was beaten 4-1/2 lengths by Protagonist. He had three trials leading into that run and it may have looked a bit flat to some but he did run home the second best last 200m of the race. Last preparation he won the Kingston Town at Rosehill over 2000m second-up after one trial so he should be ready for this after those three trials. He did run second to Hitotsu in the Victoria Derby and then a third to the same horse in the Australian Derby and his one win here at Flemington was the St Leger over 2800m on Anzac Day last year. With only 1.5kg over the limit I like his chances against these. BET: EACH-WAY

SEBONACK (Race 6 No 1) This horse can run and I am hoping that the addition of the blinkers for the first time does the trick. He won his first start at Caulfield and then next start was beaten a length in the Blue Diamond by Daumier. In his next seven starts he has been ordinary but showed three runs back at Randwick when third to Remarque, beaten a length, he's still has something to offer. Then he went to Lakeside at Sandown and ran the best last 200m of the day behind Recommendation and Wee Nessy. Again ordinary last start when down the track at Flemington although he was $11 into $8.50. He's worth a throw at the stumps at the odds. BET: EACH-WAY

TREPORTI (Race 9 No 17) This horse has been in my blackbook since May last year. He's had six starts at Flemington, all respectable. His worst run was a seventh behind Passive Aggressive on a soft (6) beaten 2-3/4 lengths. His best run was a second to Star Patrol when that horse was at his best and they were only 0.30 of a second outside the track record for 1100m. He resumed at Murray Bridge and ran on powerfully for third to his stablemate Stupendo over 1200m and the time was very respectable 1.09 outside of the record. He has form second-up, is unbeaten at the track and distance and an inform Michael Dee rides. BET: WIN
