Mets Betting Preview

New York moved to 39-46 after defeating Arizona. The Mets have now opened July with three straight victories, and if they can just keep things going, they will have life when August rolls around. The New York offense is scoring 3.98 runs per game, while batting .240, with a .317 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.56 ERA, with a 1.38 WHIP. Pete Alonso homered in the series finale win over San Fran, and he leads NYM in home runs (25) and RBI (58). Francisco Lindor plated a run in the game one victory in Arizona, and he's right behind Alonso for the team-lead in RBI at 58, with 17 homers. Brandon Nimmo has homered in three of the last five games, while recording a hit in eight of the last ten contests, and he leads the team in batting (.280) and hits (90), with 13 HR and 41 RBI.

Kodai Senga (6-5, 3.53 ERA, 101 Ks) will take the mound for New York. The rookie right-hander avoided a third straight loss by pitching well at home against Milwaukee last week, striking out eight in five innings, while holding them to two runs. Senga has been able to find the strike zone well in his first season in the majors, but he’s naturally struggled with inconsistency throughout the first three months of the season. Senga has delivered mixed results in four road spots since the start of May, dropping three of them, but managing to toss a seven-inning shutout against Pittsburgh in the lone win.

Diamondbacks Betting Preview

Arizona moved to 50-36 after falling to New York. The Diamondbacks were let down by their bullpen in game one, and they’ll look to avenge the July 4th defeat here. The Arizona offense is scoring 4.78 runs per game, while batting .273, with a .332 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.84 ERA, with a 1.36 WHIP. Corbin Carroll homered in the game one loss to the Mets, and he leads the DBacks in home runs (18), while batting .292 with 46 RBI. Ketel Marte has recorded a base knock in eight of the previous ten games, and he leads the team in hits (87), with splits of .285/15/44. Christian Walker also went yard in last night’s contest, and he leads Arizona in RBI (56), with 17 homers.

Tommy Henry (5-1, 4.08 ERA, 49 Ks) will get the ball for Arizona. The sophomore righty opened July strong with a victory in Anaheim, that saw him toss a personal-best eight strikeouts in 5.2 innings, while holding the Angels to just one run. Henry hasn’t taken a loss in nine straight starts, and he’s held teams to two runs or less in six of those. Henry is quietly developing into a nice third arm being Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly, and he’s got a good chance to earn a third straight winning decision here Wednesday.

New York vs Arizona Trends

New York is 42-38 against the spread this season, with a 44-34-4 O/U record. Arizona is 38-45 ATS this year, with a 36-47 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

It’s nice to see the Mets show signs of life coming into a crucial month in the season, but I think the Diamondbacks strike back here in game two. Arizona will more than likely pitch better in this matchup after allowing runs in multiple innings down the stretch, and I think their bats get to an inconsistent Kodai Senga. Let’s see if the DBacks can slow the Mets down a bit here, and back them for game two at home.
