NC State football win total odds released for 2023 season

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The 2023 NC State football season is still four months away, but DraftKings has already set the odds for the Wolfpack's win total this fall. According to the current projections, the betting site has the Pack at just 6.5 as the over-under for wins this upcoming season.

That comes after a season where the Wolfpack won eight games, but the ceiling was expected to be much higher. Prior to the year, NC State's over-under win total was 8.5, but injuries at critical positions -- including two starting quarterbacks going down for the remainder of the season -- kept the program from exceeding that total and potentially hitting double-digit wins.

This time around, the bar is significantly lower. In fact, the 6.5 wins matches the projection from DraftKings and nearly all of Vegas ahead of the 2021 season. The Pack won nine regular-season games that fall and likely would have tacked on a 10th if not for UCLA canceling hours before kickoff.

State enters this season with several question marks, but also veteran players at key positions -- whether they've developed in the program or transferred in. New faces like Brennan Armstrong at quarterback, Red Hibbler and Noah Potter on the defensive line and Robert Kennedy at nickel are all expected to make an impact as transfers. They'll join stars and emerging players like Aydan White, Payton Wilson, Trent Pennix, Terrell Timmons, Shyheim Battle, Michael Allen, CJ Clark, Devan Boykin, Savion Jackson and so many others that are expected to carry the torch this coming season.

So can the Wolfpack exceed the 6.5-win total like it did in 2021? The pieces are all there, but they have to come together this offseason -- especially on offense with Robert Anae taking over as offensive coordinator. That will rely heavily on Armstrong returning to his 2021 form under Anae in which he passed for nearly 4,500 yards and totaled 40 touchdowns.

Can new names emerge in the wide receiving corps like Kevin Concepcion and Javonte Vereen to lift the unit this season? Can the new-look linebacker corps and safeties step up on defense? Will there be enough depth to combat the inevitable injuries and keep up with the horses in the ACC?

With four teams on the schedule expected to win 7.5 or more games -- including 9.5 for Clemson and 9.0 for Notre Dame -- the road ahead is a tough one for the Pack. But with at least seven wins in eight of Dave Doeren's 10 seasons and eight wins in five of the last six seasons, the odds look pretty favorable for the Pack to eclipse the mark this fall.
