The Diamondbacks had five team hits and two errors in the Friday opener of this set and weren’t able to score until the ninth inning in a 7-1 defeat. Christian Walker provided the team’s only RBI with a solo homer, and Geraldo Perdomo added two hits in the loss. 

In the starting pitcher position Sunday, the Diamondbacks are sending out Zac Gallen. This year in his 32 starts Gallen is 16-8 with a 3.60 ERA and 205 Ks in 197.2 innings. Gallen is 4-3 with a 4.93 ERA over his last seven starts.

He’s the sixth player in franchise history with multiple three-homer games. 

Carlos Rodon will take the mound for the Yankees start on Sunday. This year Rodon is 3-6 with a 5.90 ERA and 60 Ks.

I’ll probably just stick with the Yankees in this one. At least some of that is due to Gallen’s recent struggles on the mound. He posted a complete-game shutout victory against the Cubs back on September 8, but in his two starts since then Gallen hasn’t posted great stats. In that pair he’s 1-1 with 10.0 innings and 10 earned in 14 hits and five walks. As for the Yankees, the good news is that they’ve scored 12 runs in the last two games combined. The bad news is that they had just four runs combined in the three games before that. That said, New York is still capable of putting up some nice offensive performances when they’re so inclined, and they’ll have a few early opportunities at the plate of Gallen struggles.
