Live on Sky Sports, Newcastle host Southampton in the second leg of the EFL Cup semifinal at the St.James Park Stadium this Tuesday. We’ve got Tipster Wizard on hand with his best bets for the game.

Eddie Howe’s men are having a fantastic season as they sit third in the Premier League table with 39 points, firmly in the race for the Champions League spots. The Magpies are looking to make their first domestic cup final since the 1998 FA Cup final, where they lost to Manchester United. They have the upper hand going into the second leg after narrowly winning the first leg 1-0 at the St.Mary’s Stadium courtesy of a Joelinton’s second goal in this competition. 

As for the Saints, they are aiming to be just the third team to qualify for the EFL Cup final after losing the first leg at home. They qualified for the semi-final after pulling off a major shock, beating the English Champions Manchester City 2-0. They will have a massive task on their hands to overturn this tie, as Newcastle are unbeaten at home this season in all competitions. Southampton have failed to beat Newcastle away from home in their last six meetings so all stats point towards Eddie Howe’s men heading to Wembley but they certainly can not afford to be complacent.

With Newcastle leading going into this game, we should expect Southampton to take an attacking approach in the second half which will present Newcastle with opportunities on the counter and they have enough firepower to take advantage and score a goal. 

It will also force the Southampton players to foul on the counter, hence the cards selection. Finally, we should expect Southampton to get desperate if they are behind and attempt shots from distance which should comfortably lead to a few goal kicks for Newcastle so adding Over 0.5 to boost the odds up to 4/5 makes sense.
