NHL Best Bets March 28: Stars shining in the Windy City

March 27th recap: The Sabres and Canadiens went over 6.5 goals thanks to a shootout by Montreal and Michael Matheson chipped in with five shots. However, Barkov, Dahlin and Sanderson couldn’t come through.

2-3, -1 units

Stars-Blackhawks Over 5.5 Goals (-120, Sports Interaction) Wager: 1.2 units to win 1 unit.

This total feels too low for me.

Chicago isn’t the same offensive team since the trade deadline, but the Stars have been leaky on defence lately.

Over their last 10 games, the Stars have averaged four goals per game but allowed 3.8 goals per contest.

These two teams have met three times this season, and these were the final scores: 6-4 (Dallas win), 4-3 (Chicago win), and 5-2 (Dallas win).

Los Angeles Kings Moneyline (+115, bet365) Wager: 1 unit to win 1.15 units

Quietly, the Los Angeles Kings have been on a roll with eight wins in their last 10 games and 18 victories in their previous 25.

Tonight, the Kings head to Calgary to take on a Flames team that has been one of the most disappointing teams in the league this year.

While Calgary can generate offence, they’re not great at finishing. That isn’t the case for L.A., who have scored the seventh-most goals in the NHL.

If I’m going to get plus money for the Kings in this matchup, I’ll take it every time.

Owen Tippett Over 3.5 SOG (+115, Unibet) Wager: 1 unit to win 1.15 units

The Flyers will get a tired Habs team coming into Philly on the second night of a back-to-back after an emotional shootout win over the Sabres.

That could mean a letdown game against the Flyers this evening, opening the door for Tippett.

Over his last 10 games, the Philly forward has 72 shot attempts and 42 shots on goal, which is good for seventh and 10th in the NHL during that stretch.

Jakub Vrana Over 0.5 Power Play Points (+400, FanDuel) Wager: 1 unit to win 4 units

If you’re a regular reader of these articles, you know that this has been one of my favourite bets lately.

Vrana has been a focal point of the Blues’ offence since coming over in a trade.

In his 11 games with St. Louis, the winger has six goals, with three coming on the man advantage.

The Blues will face the NHL’s worst penalty kill tonight in Vancouver.

While the Canucks PK has improved recently, I’ll lean on the larger sample size and say they’re still a poor unit.
