NHL playoff parlay picks April 20: Bet on Maple Leafs, Avalanche

The NHL action keeps on coming with a round of Game 2s on Thursday, and we’re eyeing three picks for our parlay.

The pregame narrative: The Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche both lost Game 1, but we’re expecting rebound efforts in Game 2. We’re also fading the struggling Ondrej Palat.

NHL odds as of 10:11 a.m. on 04/20/2023.

NHL parlay picks

Parlay: Maple Leafs moneyline + Avalanche moneyline + Palat to not score 1+ point (+273)

Maple Leafs moneyline (-190): Are we suckers for punishment? Maybe. But despite all of the horrid play in Game 1, we’re back on Toronto moneyline in Game 2.

One reason we’re confident in a bounce-back performance is that the Maple Leafs have been very good at avoiding back-to-back losses. They’ve only lost consecutive games once since Jan. 17, showing they’re capable of preventing losses from piling up.

At the end of the day, this is still a squad that boasted the third-best home record in the NHL during the regular season (27-8-6). The Tampa Bay Lightning, meanwhile, were a below-average road squad at 18-22-1.

Toronto’s ability to both pleasantly and horrifically surprise should be on full display once again.

Other parlay picks

Avalanche moneyline (-245): Colorado never lost consecutive games during the team’s run to the Stanley Cup last year, and we’re not expecting a pair of losses to begin this postseason.

The Avalanche, in fact, haven’t lost back-to-back games since March 5. That’s 22 games without suffering any sort of losing streak.

The Seattle Kraken deserve plenty of credit for their defensive efforts, but containing Nathan MacKinnon once again seems like an impossible task. The undeniable forward led the NHL in regular-season points from March 1 onward, totalling 20 goals and 40 points in his final 24 games of the campaign.

With only an assist to his name in Game 1, expect the Moose to be all over the ice in Game 2 and lead the Avs to victory.

Palat to not score 1+ point (-220): Palat is the most-experienced playoff performer for the New Jersey Devils, but he’s not producing much lately. The winger only has four points in his last 18 games and nine in his last 28.

His opponent, the New York Rangers, has been a difficult matchup for him to navigate this season. Including Game 1, Palat has zero points in three outings against the Blueshirts this year.

The game total for this contest is also sitting at 5.5, a sign that offence may be hard to come by.
