Nick Saban opted to bench Jalen Milroe in Week 3 vs. South Florida, and things didn’t go as planned. Instead of whomping USF as many past Crimson Tide squads would, Alabama was tied with the Bulls at halftime before notching a 17-3 victory.

Ty Simpson was Bama’s leading passer with 73 yards plus a rushing touchdown, while starter Tyler Buchner managed just 34 yards. Roydell Williams stepped up big time, rushing for 129 yards and a score.

Milroe gets the nod vs. an Ole Miss defense that’s recorded 10 sacks in 2023, the third most in the SEC. The Crimson Tide’s offense line has been shockingly bad this year, allowing five sacks vs. South Florida.

Dual-threat QB Jaxson Dart leads the Rebels offense with 852 passing yards and 213 rushing yards. Jordan Watkins’ 290 receiving yards are the sixth most in the SEC, and Tre Harris’ five receiving touchdowns are the second highest.

The Rebels offense has been spectacular this year, and Alabama will have difficulty keeping up. Ole Miss’ largest scoring output was a 73-point performance vs. Mercer, followed by a 48-23 win vs. Georgia Tech. Alabama rag-dolled Middle Tennessee in a 56-7 victory but failed to surpass 24 points against Texas and South Florida.

Starting Milroe again will bring a better offensive showing than what we saw vs. USF, but it won’t be enough, as Ole Miss covers the touchdown spread and potentially wins the game outright. It’s one of our upsets of the week.

Unless the Tide’s offensive line improved drastically over the last week of practice, it will be a long day for Alabama.

The Crimson Tide failed to stop Texas’ pass catchers in the Week 2 loss at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Ja’Tavion Sanders had 114 yards, Adonai Mitchell had 78 yards, and Xavier Worthy had 75 yards.

Ole Miss also has a dominant trio in Watkins, Dayton Wade with 215 yards on the year, and Tre Harris with 188 yards. Anticipate Dart to rely on his star WRs in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.

Watkins has surpassed his 49.5 receiving yard total in all three Ole Miss games this season.
