Philadelphia Phillies vs San Diego Padres Prediction 7-14-23 MLB Picks

The San Diego Padres and the Philadelphia Phillies meet Friday in MLB action from Citizens Bank Park. The Padres last played the Mets taking two wins out of three games. As for Philadelphia, their last series saw the team lose two of three to the Marlins. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

San Diego Padres

The Padres lost to the Mets last Friday 7-5, but then bounced back for wins 3-1 and 6-2 in the remaining two games. That left San Diego with a 43-47 record for the first half of the season, putting the team in fourth place in the NL West.

For the starter job on Friday, the Padres will send out Yu Darvish. In his 15 starts this year Darvish is 5-6 with a 4.87 ERA and 89 Ks in 85.0 innings. Darvish is 100-81 with a 3.58 ERA in 257 career games.

Philadelphia Phillies

Over on the Phillies’ side, they beat the Marlins 4-3 last Friday then fell 5-3 and 7-3 in the weekend games. Philadelphia is currently sitting at 48-41. That puts the team in third place in the NL East behind the Braves and Marlins.

Christopher Sanchez will take the mound for the start on Friday. This year in five starts Sanchez is 0-2 with a 2.84 ERA and 22 Ks in 25.1 innings. Sanchez is 3-4 with a 4.62 ERA in 27 career games (nine starts).

The Padres have hit the under in 47 of their last 83 games and the run line in seven of their last eight. San Diego has hit the money line in five of their last six.

Meanwhile, the Phillies have covered the run line in 37 of their last 89 and the money line in 23 of their last 32. Philly has hit the under in 39 of their last 72 games.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll take a stab on the Phillies here. Sanchez has pitched pretty well over his last three starts, despite going 0-2 in that time. In that trio Sanchez has five earned over 17.0 combined innings on 16 hits and one walk. As for Darvish, he’s got 13 earned runs in his last 16.0 innings on 22 hits and six walks. Philadelphia has given up 15 runs in their last three combined games, so they’re going to have to put the clamps down in the field. That said I think Sanchez will put the team in a decent spot.
