San Diego Padres vs New York Mets Prediction 7-7-23 MLB Picks

The New York Mets and the San Diego Padres meet Friday in MLB action from Petco Park. The Mets are fresh off a series versus the Diamondbacks. After winning the first pair, on Thursday New York bagged a nice shutout win. As for San Diego, they played the Angels this week and bagged a three-game sweep. New York Mets

The Mets took out the Diamondbacks 8-5 and 2-1 in the first two games of their series. On Thursday New York posted five runs in the third inning during a 9-0 shutout victory. Carlos Carrasco logged 8.0 frames in the start with three hits, one walk and four Ks.

For the starter job on Friday, the Mets will send out Justin Verlander. In his 11 starts this year Verlander is 3-4 with a 3.66 ERA and 55 Ks in 64.0 innings. Verlander is 247-137 with a 3.25 ERA in 493 career starts.

San Diego Padres

Over on the Padres’ side, they bagged wins over the Angels 10-3 Monday, 8-5 Tuesday and 5-3 on Wednesday. In the finale, San Diego’s Seth Lugo went 6.0 innings in the start with one earned on five hits and a walk.

It’ll be Yu Darvish in the starting role for San Diego on Friday. Across his 14 starts so far Darvish is 5-6 with a 4.84 ERA and 85 Ks in 80.0 innings. Darvish is 100-81 with a 3.57 career ERA in 256 starts.

The Mets are 10-22 in their last 32 road games and 3-7 in their last 10 in game one of a series. New York is 1-4 in their last five Friday games.

Meanwhile, the Padres are 6-2 in their last eight at home and 25-10 in their last 35 after an off day. San Diego is 2-7 in their last nine versus a right-handed starter.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll stay with the Mets in this one. Verlander has a couple of good starts under his belt right now. In his most recent pair, Verlander is 1-0 with zero earned on 10 hits and three walks in 12.0 frames. On Thursday New York had an excellent outing on both sides. The offense bagged 17 hits, and Carrasco spun a gem in the starting role. I like the Mets to keep it rolling in this opener.
