NBA PrizePicks Predictions Today

Dereck Lively – 16.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists

There’s a steep learning curve for most rookie bigs, but Dereck Lively has come in and immediately given the Mavs a boost at what was their weakest position a season ago. He won’t get any Rookie of the Year love in a loaded field, but the Duke product has immediately drawn Tyson Chandler comparisons in his first NBA season. Lively is contributing 8.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, and 1.3 assists through his first 31 games at this level.

Tonight, the Mavs will host a Celtics team playing for the 2nd time in as many nights after a victory in Houston on Sunday. Boston is expected to get Al Horford back after he sat out last night, while Kristaps Porzingis is likely to sit. Boston’s rim defense has been almost impeccable so far this season, but the absence of the 7’3” ex-Mav should make life easier for Lively and company tonight.

Lively is more of a rim-runner than a center capable of creating his own looks, but that’s where Luka Doncic comes in. Lively’s 73.5% field goal percentage would lead the NBA if he’d played enough games to qualify. Without Porzingis in there to patrol the paint, the Doncic-Lively 2-man game should be there for Dallas in this one.

Kevin Huerter – 22.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists

The Kings’ record so far this season is almost identical to what it was at this point a year ago, yet the good vibes in Sacramento seem to have all but evaporated. Such is life with the weight of expectations. Kevin Huerter has had a particularly weird season. Red Velvet has been seemingly in and out of Mike Brown’s doghouse all year, though he did recently return to the Kings’ starting unit.

After averaging more than 15 points per game a season ago, Huerter’s scoring average has dipped all the way to just 10.5 this year. He’s never been a particularly fruitful source of ancillary stats, either, and he’s giving the Kings 3.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists a night. Huerter’s primary job is to get open and convert whatever looks he gets from beyond the 3-point line. After averaging more than 11 shots attempts per game a season ago, he’s shooting just 8.9 times per game in 2023-24.

Huerter’s minutes have risen since his recent promotion back into the starting unit, but Brown is still willing to ride the hot hand in the backcourt. Huerter’s played exactly 39 minutes in 2 of the last 3 games, but he’s fallen south of 30 minutes in 2 of his last 4. He’s capable of getting hot and finishing with more than 22.5 points + rebounds + assists on points alone, but I’m willing to bank on an off night. 22.5 looks a little rich, given Huerter’s middling season averages.

  • Play: Less Than 22.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists

Tobias Harris – 16.5 Points

For whatever reason, the bad teams in the NBA this year seem excessively bad. The Pistons, Wizards, Hornets, and Spurs have combined to win 28 games all season. For comparison, the Celtics, Bucks, T-Wolves, Nuggets, and Thunder have all won more than 28 games on their own. We’ve been picking on the dregs of the league in DFS all year, and I see no reason not to do the same with pick’em DFS.

Tobias Harris tends to fly under the radar as the third banana in a Philly offense that features a pair of All-Stars, but he’s quietly putting together a solid season of his own. Harris is contributing nearly 18 points per game on the year on ultra-efficient 51% shooting from the field. Tobias won’t get a ton of looks with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey soaking up so much usage, but he is making the most of the rare opportunities he gets.

Tonight, it’s safe to expect another efficient outing against a Spurs team that comes into this game ranked just 25th in the league in defensive efficiency. There’s obvious blowout risk here with the Sixers listed as 2-touchdown home favorites, but here’s hoping Tobias and friends can do enough damage to get there even without a full allotment of minutes.
