Spendarella comes west to grab big prize in Del Mar Oaks
Spendarella won the Grade I Del Mar Oaks by 41/2 lengths over San Clemente Stakes winner Bellabel. Tyler Gaffalione rode her to victory. Spendarella was shipped from a trainer's base in Maryland to win the race. The three Phil D’Amato entries that finished 1-2-3 in the San Francisco Stake on July 23 went second (Bellabel), eighth (Sixteen Arches) and ninth (Island of Love). Cairo Memories came third. The winner was a 6-to-5 favorite. It was the second time trainer Graham Motion sent a filly west to take the Oaks.
