Sports Betting Handle in Kansas Surpasses $200 Million in September

DraftKings remained the top operator, raking in just under $100 million in handle.

Kansas celebrated its one-year anniversary of legal sports betting in September, and things are looking up in the Sunflower State.

The Kansas Lottery reported a September handle of $219.2 million, well above the $94.4 million in August. Revenue also jumped from $4.4 million to $8 million with a hold of 8.3%, almost unchanged from the 8.2% figure from the previous month.

Promotional bonuses also exploded as football season kicked off. September saw $11.6 million in promo deductions versus $2.7 million in August. However, last month’s bonuses pale in comparison to last year when sports betting launched and operators reported $34.4 million in deductions.

The brick-and-mortar operators representing Kansas sports betting also saw a year-over-year boom in wagers, raking in $5.3 million in September wagers. That being said, the retail sportsbooks saw little luck compared to online betting sites. The four casinos saw a combined $45,000 in revenue last month, which was less than half of September 2022’s haul.

DraftKings remains the top operator

DraftKings led all sportsbooks in September with a handle of $97.2 million, marking nearly half of the statewide action. FanDuel came in a distant second with $54.5 million, although revenue-wise, they were much closer as DraftKings produced $3.3 million while FanDuel raked in $2.9 million).

BetMGM finished third with $21.3 million and Caesars was close behind with $18.1 million. Meanwhile, neither Barstool Sportsbook ($7.8 million) nor PointsBet ($1.9 million) exceeded $10 million in bets.
