The Charles Schwab Challenge Betting Preview: Odds, Predictions and Tips

After the high stress of last week’s PGA Championship, the world’s finest golfers head to a favourite haunt - the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth (often referred to as Hogan’s Alley).

As mentioned at the top of the page, this week’s host Colonial Country Club is sometimes known as Hogan’s Alley.

That nickname references both the great Ben Hogan’s love of the layout (he won this tournament five times) and the nature of the test (the holes, many of them doglegs, travel up and down tight tree-lined fairways).

Intriguingly, winners and runners-up at Colonial have always had a good record at last week’s PGA Championship venue Oak Hill and the trend continued with winner Brooks Koepka and second-placed Scottie Scheffler both having top two finishes in this event.

Not much help to us this week except, of course, that the relationship might work in both directions.

Chris Kirk each-way

At last year’s PGA Championship Chris Kirk said the course - Southern Hills - reminded him of Colonial. He finished fifth that week and added “I love it at Colonial.”

He also explained why the course suits him: “Like Waialae in Hawaii there are tough to hit fairways and small greens, and I love that style of golf.”

He’s a past winner at Colonial with, in all, seven top 16 finishes in 12 starts.

He’s also a winner this year (and before that finished third at Waialae).

Jordan Spieth top 10

Let’s keep this one straightforward: Jordan Spieth likes Colonial almost as much as Hogan did.

True, he’s only lifted the trophy once, but he’s also been second three times and, in all, he’s finished in the top 10 eight times in 10 appearances.

“I think the results show that I love this place,” he said last year. “For whatever reason, it fits my game really well and I really enjoy playing it.

“I’ve also putted well here. I love the slopes of the greens and seem to find success regardless of form coming in some years.”

The numbers are in our favour.

Cam Davis each way

The Aussie Cam Davis is a golfer on the way up in the game.

An impressive amateur, he won his first title on the PGA Tour in 2021 and last week flew home on a wet sail to card 65 when recording his first major championship top five finish (and third top seven in his last five strokeplay starts).

Although having plenty of ammunition from the tee box he has proved himself a fine fit for tests like this week, notably with top 10s at Waialae and Harbour Town (the last of those this season).

He also has good memories of the course because last year he tied the first round lead before finishing seventh.
