Miami Marlins vs Detroit Tigers Prediction 7-30-23 MLB Picks

The Detroit Tigers and the Miami Marlins meet Sunday in MLB action from Marlins Park. This will be the finale in a three-game series over the weekend. The Marlins eked out a close win in the opener. On Saturday in game two the Tigers evened it up with a shutout victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at  Sports Chat Place.

Detroit Tigers

The Tigers came back from an early 4-0 deficit on Friday in the opener but ended up falling short 6-5. Matt Vierling, Spencer Torkelson (run; RBI) and Javier Baez (two runs) each had two hits in the loss. On Saturday Detroit got three runs in the second inning during a 5-0 victory. Akil Baddoo bagged a three-run homer to kick things off, and Riley Greene would later add a solo shot.

In the starter role for the Tigers on Sunday will be Tarik Skubal. In his four starts this year Skubal is 1-1 with a 3.71 ERA and 23 Ks in 17.0 innings. Skubal bagged a win in his last start over the Giants with zero earned, zero walks and two hits in 5.0 innings.

Miami Marlins

Over on the Marlins’ side, they got a homer and three RBI from Bryan De La Cruz in the Friday win. Luis Arraez added three hits as well, and John Berti had two hits, a run and an RBI. In game two Miami couldn’t find any success on seven team hits. Arraez was the only player with multiple hits, and Jorge Soler went 1-for-4.

Jesus Luzardo will take the mound for the start on Sunday for Miami. Across 21 starts this year Luzardo is 8-5 with a 3.22 ERA and 144 strikeouts in 120.1 innings. In his last start Luzardo took a no-decision versus Colorado on one earned in 7.0 innings.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m going to try the Marlins in this one. Luzardo is pitching pretty well these days. In his last three starts combined Luzardo has five earned runs on 13 hits and six walks in 17.1 total innings. Skubal gave up seven earned in 4.0 innings in Kansas City recently, but two of his last three starts (9.0 innings combined; zero earned) have been very good. On Saturday Miami had a tepid evening offensively. That said, the middle relief posted 2.0 innings with no earned, two hits and a walk in a solid appearance. Miami has three or more runs in four of their last six games though, so I like the offense to return in a better overall effort during the finale.
