Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero

Cristian Romero can headline a feel-good story for us this afternoon.

Tottenham and visitors Newcastle (4.30pm) were all over the back pages after shockers in midweek defeats.

Both sides have injury lists as long as your arm – but you have to hand it to Spurs, they stick two fingers up to the idea of cutting your coat according to your cloth.

They haven’t won in five. But they are doing it like a boss. Trust Ange Postecoglou to give them another shake of the sauce bottle here, and that lifts the goals forecast.

Newcastle’s road form is so weak, and they have such a huge European night looming, that we can pass over their likelier lads today at the prices. Stick with Romero, who has got goals in three of his 12 Spurs games this season, two of them headers. That’s a good fit against Newcastle’s latest make-do defence.

Punt Romero ‘anytime scorer at a fair 12/1.

Luton have conceded losing goals to headers in their past two games, and Erling Haaland ‘scores a header’ is ripe at 8/1 (Betway) when Manchester City visit (2pm).

After Thursday’s schooling of Newcastle, Everton boss Sean Dyche said that his team had a different smell these days and that people are beginning to notice. Same with my fat old cat, Sean. Might be glandular.

Card fan Michael Oliver has his paws on the whistle as Chelsea visit (2pm), so Idrissa Gueye at 3/1 (Bet365) ‘to be booked’ has the whiff of possibility about it, with a spicy game forecast.

West Ham and hosts Fulham (2pm) seem to defy expectations on a game-by-game basis, which is fun for pundits but hard work for punters.

Hammers talisman Jarrod Bowen has headed-goal stats that defy any reasonable expectations of a 5ft-9in scurrier. Have Bowen ‘anytime scorer’ at 3/1 (Unibet) and the 33/1 (Bet365) he ‘scores a header’ is generous on the raw data.

Over in Spain, back in-form Ante Budimir ‘anytime scorer’ at a fair 9/4 (Coral, Lads, Skybet) when Osasuna head to Cadiz (5.30pm, La Liga).
