Gordon worth a shot

Winger Anthony Gordon has been a key attacking outlet for Newcastle this season, with six goals and three assists in the Premier League putting him top of the Magpies’ scoring contribution table.

The 22-year-old has had more shots than any other Newcastle player this term, attempting 30 efforts on goal for an average of 2.34 shots per 90 minutes.

His three shots against former club Everton in midweek made it three Premier League appearances in succession in which he has had a trio of attempts and he comes up against a Spurs side who have allowed their opponents 13.4 shots per game this campaign.

Bank on Newcastle spirit

Tottenham have taken just one point from their previous five Premier League matches, but they have scored first in all those assignments.

In fact, Ange Postecoglou’s side have netted first in each of their past nine games, but seem to crumble under pressure in the second half, which does not bode well against a side that seem to come alive after the break.

Five of Newcastle’s past six Premier League goals have come after half-time and 62 per cent of their away goals this term have been scored in the second half.

The Magpies may be struggling on the road right now, but they have the quality to beat a home side that have lost each of their previous three league home games.

Gordon and Porro at the double

Tottenham may have suffered a drop in form over the past six weeks, but the fifth-placed side still pose a big threat going forward and can trouble a depleted Newcastle defence.

The hosts have scored in all 15 Premier League games this season – and in the absence of James Maddison, Pedro Porro has emerged as a key figure in Postecoglou’s attack. He has provided four assists in 14 appearances this term and his assist in midweek made it three assists from his previous four outings.

But Gordon, given his record of goals and assists this term, will fancy his chances against the attack-minded Porro on Newcastle’s left.

He netted the Geordies’ winner over Manchester United last weekend and scored and assisted against Chelsea the weekend before. Gordon has four goal contributions in his past five league appearances and can continue his purple patch at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
